How does stuff cling to your insides (like spackle! according to that one add on the Fan960) without getting infected, or without getting sloughed off and flushed away when the surface cells in those areas die and regenerate?
Makes no sense to me

Build up is usually a combination of inactive lifestyle and unhealthy eating, the body never gets an opportunity to clean itself when constantly taking in new toxins and never forces itself to process the old ones.
If something does get infected inside your body, your body would prioritize the flushing out of those toxins, instead of just leaving them on that steadily growing 'to-do' list.

A fundamental premise held by believers in “alternative” health is that we are swimming in a world of “toxins” and those “toxins” are causing disease. Like most premises in “alternative” health it has no basis in scientific fact; makes intuitive sense only if you are ignorant of medicine, science and statistics; and speaks to primitive fears and impulses.
Toxins serve the same explanatory purpose as evil humours and miasmas. They are invisible, but all around us. They constantly threaten people, often people who unaware of their very existence. They are no longer viewed as evil in themselves, but it is axiomatic that they have be released into our environment by “evil” corporations.
There’s just one problem. “Toxins” are a figment of the imagination, in the exact same way that evil humours and miasmas were figments of the imagination.
The height of inanity is the belief in “detoxifying” diets and colon cleansing. The human body does not produce “toxins.” That’s just a superstition of the “alternative” health community. The waste products produced by the human body are easily metabolized by organs such as the liver, and excreted by organs particularly designed for that purpose such as the kidneys.
“Alternative” health practitioners are nothing more than quacks and charlatans and their “remedies” are nothing more than snake oil. The fact that anyone in this day and age still believes in such crackpot theories is a tribute to the power of ignorance and superstition.

John Wayne still died with 30 lbs of spackle crap in his intestines. It's based in fact, but the 'alternative health' industry is really diluting the amount of good information available.

The idea of the colon being a reservoir of toxins is not based on scientific knowledge, yet it is a mainstay among alternative health advisers. For example, a review of a leading colon cleanser by a leading promoter of detoxification doesn't name a single toxin that the colon allegedly retains or that the product allegedly removes. The review repeatedly says that the product "cleanses" or "purifies" but provides no evidence that it does either. In fact, it doesn't even provide a sense of what it means to cleanse or purify an organ. Nor, of course, does it provide any evidence that organs need cleansing or purification.
Thus, while detoxification therapies abound, there doesn't seem to be any compelling reason the average person should consider using any of them. They are not based on solid scientific evidence. They are sold to the general public mainly by appealing to fear (of being poisoned by our foods, water, air, and general modern environment) and hope (of good health, feeling better or less tired, and the like). Worst of all, the word 'detoxification' when used by the sellers of foods, drinks, herbs, and machines, is almost always so vague, ambiguous, or obscure as to be meaningless. The purveyors of these products fancy themselves to be offering a progressive response to the modern world with its many sources of pollutants that find their way into our bodies. In reality, these snake oil hucksters are akin to the pre-scientific physicians and barbers who used bloodletting to remove 'bad humors' and poisons in an effort to cleanse their patients.

There is a lot of great advice in this thread. Gather up the information and make your own decision. The key is from this day forward start to eat better. Over time as you eat better your body will handle getting rid of what it should.
Ten years ago I always felt like crap and was just not that healthy. I slowly switched my diet over from the bad stuff to the good stuff and I feel quite healthy. I probably took a couple years as I broke a lot of bad habits. But as I eliminated each one I started to feel better.
Now I feel fine in the sense that I am regular and have no tummy aches. It is a smooth running machine.
As somebody mentioned previously. Now when I go have one of those bad meals that I used to eat all the time my body doesn't like it. I can feel the crap in my system. But fortunately now my body handles it and gets past it pretty fast.

Which is true.
But over time your liver can stop from working as well due to a variety of reasons. Alcohol probably being the biggest one. Which in turn can cause problems for metabolizing those 'toxins.'
Grape Juice well send you running to the washroom fast.

Yep, the colon is smooth with no villi and is lined with mucous and cells that fall away every couple days taking everything with it when they are shed
It's almost impossible for anything like "spackle" to get stuck to your colon walls. If something actually gets stuck there, it's probably time to see your Doctor.
That's not to say there aren't intestinal disorders and damage over time as we age such as ulcers and inflammatory infections, but for most people, the idea that you need to periodically go out of your way to clean out your own gut is bunk.

I got food poisoning a few weeks ago...
I'd say that gave me a pretty good detox!
