No offense but if I exercised and ate a healthy diet do you think I'd need a detox?

I already know that exercise and a healthy diet is the best way but unfortunately it's easier said than done.

For me, it's easier done to eat some veggies and jog a little bit than spending $60 on fake medicine that can hurt me.

What issues are you having that you think you need a detox? Perhaps you should see your Doctor.

Fair enough, but I'm not talking about going out tomorrow morning and running 10k.

If you haven't done a lot of physical exercise in a while, start slowly, and set a goal for yourself to work towards.

Diet is totally manageable, but it really isn't that hard, I don't eat incredible by any stretch of the imagination, but I do try to have several servings of greens and fruits a day.

I guess what I'm saying is the quick fix isn't the answer. The way to really get your body happy is to work your way towards an overall healthy lifestyle. Quick fixes rarely work, and often times can cause more trouble than they are worth.

What I found which was really easy to get a lot of fresh raw vegetables in my diet (cooking destroys vitamin C and other nutrients) was to buy a mixed veggie platter.

Then I just have them around when I am bored or doing work or watching TV or sitting at the computer or anything else and out of the need to munch on something and out of the laziness of having to get up if I want something else, I'll end up munching through piles of brocolli and carrots and cauliflower and green beans and not even notice it.

Forcing yourself to go through a plate of veggies at the dinner table is hard. Accidentally eating tons of them while reading CP is easy.

AFAIK, almost all digestion happens in your small intestine and not the colon. Your small intestine is lined with villi to do this. Your colon has no villi because its main job isn’t digestion but to reclaim water. The colon is lined with a heavy non-stick mucous lining and cells that fall away every couple days taking everything with it. It's almost impossible for anything to get stuck to your colon walls. If something actually gets stuck there, it's probably time to see your Doctor for an x-ray & surgery and not a laxative.
Yes your right, I used colon as thats what people seem to use these days in explaining digestive problems..my mistake!
But lots can go wrong.Colitis in the large, Ileitis in the small and none of it a fun ride.

I felt like crap for months this year. Then I started running 3KM a day and now I sleep like a baby, wake up earlier than I ever did before naturally without my alarm clock, and have tons more energy than I ever did before. Humans evolved doing physical activity. If you don't do enough, your body reacts negatively and you feel lazy and slothlike and you get tired and feel sick. Lack of exercise probably has to do with overabundance of anxiety and things like that too.

I play hockey once a week and thats about all the exercise I do, but I cant just run without a purpose(if that makes sense)

I need to be playing a sport to feel motivated to get any exercise. My diet consists of Mcdonalds, Wendy's and any other fast food joint you can think of. I hardly drink any water, maybe a cup a day. So yah I'm pretty unhealthy.

Yeah, you're pretty much dead.

There are no shortcuts. Stop eating fast food for one thing. I have it like once a month. To motivate yourself to go running, force yourself to go run before doing something you like. Tell yourself that if you don't run, you don't get to eat your favorite food. Or if you don't run, you don't get to look at porn

Can I run to Mcdonalds?

I've tried quitting fast food a number of times, but I seriously think I'm addicted. I get withdrawals if I dont have fast food.

I've never been addicted to anything in my life other than fast food. I don't smoke, don't drink coffee, don't drink alcohol but not eating fast food seems impossible.

Someone please quote this as I am on puckluck's ignore list. . . I have no idea why. Actually, if you don't it would be funnier.

Most cleanses actually cleanse the liver. It does not and will NEVER detox the fat in your body or other storage places. No matter what people tell you detox CAN be good, but a detox is a lifestyle change. Clean your liver and exercise. The best thing to do if you are thinking about a healthy living is to understand why you are choosing to Detox.

A Detox is not a fad or a sham. We detox from drugs daily. Our liver removes toxins that we are not aware of on a daily basis. The sham is, "When I do a Detox my life will change." or "I did it or I can do it once or twice a year and I'm golden!"

To keep detoxed you need to pick out what is toxic to your body. What are you ingesting, inhaling (not a slant), or absorbing and what can I do to lessen the effects of harmful crap in the environment. This is healthy thinking!

Take what you need, what you want, and what will be fun.

If what you need has ridiculous amounts of crap then don't detox. Pay me for this post instead because you are doing the same thing. Wasting your money on the awesome (me) and not paying the close attention to your body that you need to. Detox is not a once or twice thing. It's like staying off drugs, or chemicals/poisons/toxins. It's a reason there are organic stores. It's just a way of life.

Take care,

Awesome.

Pop a few Ducolax and start a Probiotic regimen (the capsules that need refrigeration).

You'll be good to go -- literally and figuratively.

Snort the orange powder from a KD box then place the two old rusty pennies on your exposed eyes while chugging a gallon of chocolate milk. Works every time.

Pineapple juice, triscuits and cream loaded coffee. Dont forget to clear a path to the bathroom. That should rid you of any toxins or red meat stuck anywhere.

As many have said...diet and exercise. If you have trouble exercising start with the diet as it is easier to control.

Step 1: remove all crap from your fridge and cupboards

Step 2: stock up on fresh fruits, veggies and good quality lean meats. I say good quality because a nice piece of fresh meat will beat fast food every time.

Step 3: Find a reasonable "diet". The easiest for me and anyone I've talked to in the end is the food pyramid we all grew up with. The problem with the food pyramid is that no one knows what a serving size is...LEARN this. Easiest way for me was to track down the American Diabetes Association example of a monthly menu. It is the food pyramid but gives you explicit serving sizes. You'll learn to sub in other things easily. Not sure you can find it now but I'm sure they or the canadian version would send you.

Step 4: Be prepared to feel crappy for a few days. You will go through a fast food withdrawal and the cravings but they go away pretty quickly. I knew one guy who had trouble staying away from fast food so he went camping with all his healthy food for a long weekend. He had no access to fast food and got through the first few days.

Step 5: Follow healthy eating for a 4-6 weeks with very little to no cheating. If you cheat look towards something that isn't greasy but still satisfies...cereal works for me.

Step 6: go have a greasy meal. By this time a greasy, fat laden meal should make you feel absolutely terrible and you won't want to do that to yourself ever again.

Step 7: likely already started at this point but you will have increased energy and you can't help but to exercise.

Step 8: if you need to go on antibiotics at some point (as we all do), take probiotics during and after the treatment. It'll help right yourself quicker. At least I notice the toll antibiotics takes on my body now that it isn't already feeling terrible because of a poor diet and lack of exercise.

I did this cleanse recently, after some tough months of abusing my body.
http://www.renewlife.com/total-body-rapid-cleanse.html

Also ate as a vegetarian that week, exercised, and drank lots of water.

It's pretty much composed of a colon/fibre element, some liver/kidney herbs, and some probiotics to help re-eastablish effed up intestine flora.

Felt like crap for 2 days, then felt great. The only "snake oil"ish element is the herbs, but I believe some herbal remedies work (into echinecea, ginseng, etc), so why not these? Worst case it is a commitment to change your pattern for a week.

Eating Fresh Veggies?

Exercise?

You people have it all wrong!

The secret is, bottled, all natural, imported Mexican river water. Why work the body hard, make the body work hard for you!

About a year ago I was in the exact same position you were. I ate late, I ate unhealthy, I'd order pizza and wings at 11 at night, Taco Time for Lunch the next day was my first meal.

I started changing my eating habits, stopped eating late at night, and always eat breakfast. I never eat past 8pm now. I've lost almost 10 inches from my waist and I feel comfortable "in my own skin" for the first time in a long time. I started working out about 3-4 times a week.

On tuesday of this week was the first run I went on. Trust me, you wouldn't be running without a purpose, I never felt that way at least. The purpose was health.

I, like you, probably did have some sort of addiction to fast food, but that's no excuse, you'll get over that. I also don't bring crap into my house to snack on, I was, and still am if given the chance a big snacker. I don't bring chips, pop, chocolate bars.. and my personal Crack Cocaine, Chocolate Covered Almonds into the house.

I cheat.. but the results far outweigh going back to the lifestyle I had a year ago and cheating all the time.

At first, it will suck, but just keep with it and don't get frustrated when you aren't rocking the 6pack abs after a month. That's also why at the start of my post I didn't list my weightloss.. I didn't check at the start.. I just started working out and the results came. In fact I have no idea what I weigh now, but I can look in the mirror and be happy with the results.

I have a history of heart disease in my family, and it's only going to be a couple years until I'm 30, I finally did something about it.

Just start, stick with it.

Fasting works. After a couple days, with no food to process, your body will focus on moving out all the toxins. Then you'll really start to feel like crap as big-macs start oozing out your pores, but after a week, you'll start to feel amazing.

Get a few colonics over the week to really 'flush' it out.
