New BBQ
Looking for recomendations for a new Grill. Looking to Spend $600-$800 possibly. Propane as the Fuel.
Also, where to buy said BBQ.
Looked at the Jenn-Air at Costco (which I think is a Nexgrill BBQ), seems to have a lot of features, but cant find much Information on it.

They have the same models at home depot that they do at bbq galore and on the weber website.
E310/320 S310/320
I love my E320 - I think it has a cast Iron hood, I will take some pics tonight.

ok so here is a question, what do I need in a BBQ?
Size - family of 4 with some backyard BBQ get togethers
Fuel - Propane
Dont want a cheap one that I have to replace the Burners year after year, or that the grill cant keep warm enough when the wind kicks up, like I currently have.

My cheapo BBQ I bought spur of the moment to feed people at a company party has been great and I use it more than most for sure.
A Fiesta 450, stainless burner, 950 sq. in cooking area, 45,000 btu ? for 150-200 bucks 7 years ago and I just changed the Burner, my buddy's fancy new Broil King makes really bad steaks ?

If you are a winter BBQer then you may want to look out for having one that is too big for your needs; as you will spend a lot more time heating up the grill. This is important if you have a smaller family and may only need a smaller area.
I have seen some with dual lids, so you can heat up the smaller side quicker.

I just bought the Weber Spirit E310 a couple weeks ago. It's a pretty great grill. I am quite happy with it. BBQ's galore had it for cheaper, but Home Depot will price match and beat it by 10%. I also signed up for a Home Depot credit card and got another 10% off.
It puts out a lot of heat and is very even. It heats up quickly too. The only downside I think there is the grill grates. They are porcelain enamel and don't hold as much heat as other grates. But at that price point it's par for the course. Plus it's always something that you can purchase separately. Also don't buy the Weber BBQ covers, they are too expensive and wimpy.

I've never been unhappy with any Broil King that I have purchased. In the past few years, I've purchased 4 or 5, of varying sizes and with different features, for friends.
I'm still using my Broil King Regal which must be 15 years old. I've had to replace the grills and burner 2 times, and am almost due again. But the controls work awesome and the tub has never warped.

Sorry to bump this back up - I'm looking at a propane Weber CEP310. Is http://www.barbecuesgalore.ca/ the best place around to get one? (899.99)
Thanks

Maybe it's your buddy forgetting that you can't cook the steak right without flipping it.....

I just got a Big Green Egg a couple of weeks ago. I am loving it so far. I didn't think i would use it too much and still do have a Broil King Propane BBQ sitting next to it. But i am using it a ton.

Go to Costco/Walmart/Canadian Tire in October and you can get that $800 BBQ for < $300 bucks.

Damn it, TimSJ. I am so jealous, haha.
A few questions if you don't mind:
- What size egg did you get?
- How many average size steaks/burgers can you reasonably fit?
- How long to heat up and how hard to maintain a consistent temp, especially if you wanted to cook something at a low temp over a long time, how often would you need to check it?
- Did you set it up yourself? How hard was the setup?
I really want one, but the wife and I have different priorities at the moment. I say BBQ, then patio set, she doesn't agree. She wins.

Hey Potty,
i have the large egg
haven't used it a ton yet but remember reading somewhere i think that the large will fit 8 steaks, 5 chickens, 20 lb turkey. as i said i haven't done a big feed yet just the family so far so space hasn't been an issue at all yet.
I bought a chimney lighter fr $15 at crappy tire and it gets everything going and up to heat in 10-15 minutes
Controlling the temp was easier than i thought at the temps i have done so far. $350 for a couple of hours had it as high as 750 to sear a steak. Haven't tackled a brisket or anything yet. hope to in a few weeks.
I didn't really have to set up as i got it from a friend of mine who upgraded to an XL Egg so it was already put together. 1 thing though it weighs a ton. i think 149lb for the large egg and not much to grab onto.. Hard as hell to get loaded on the truck and up on the deck.
Hope this helps a bit. if you have any other questions i am happy to help. I am really loving the thing so far although the wife thinks i am a kook always going on about the thing to whomever will listen to me. Just another BBQ she says....
Here are a few pics from the first weekend with it and i did a butterfly chicken.

I have a 10 year-old Vermont Castings grill that works great. Heavy as hell though.
Haven't seen much VC stuff out there lately so they may be hard to find.

We have a similar situation with family size etc. I bought a Genesis EP320 and don't regret it one bit. It does have the side burner but I don't think that I have ever used it. The only reason I got it was it happened to be the same price as the other one that day.
It is small enough to cook just for the immediate family and big enough to cook for 10 extra people, depending on what you're making. The only thing I have had to do with it in 4 years is replace the battery in the iginition button. Is has only gone out on me once on a really windy day when I had it set really low.... and I live in a fairly windy/exposed part of the city.
The only thing that I found that was kind of odd (I had never seen before)was that the burners, for my model year, run across the bbq so you have front middle and back heat vs the side to side. So if you are looking at doing indirect cooking it can be a little tricky depending on what you are cooking. (if it is something really big)

Thanks for the pics. Let me know how it goes when you do a long, slow cook. Curious to know how close you have to watch when doing something like that. I would love it if you could cook something overnight at a really low temp, or put something in it in the morning and leave for the day.
