Eagles Div 4 for me... used to pay at a higher level, but age, beer, lack of time, etc. all got in the way.

Used to be in 2, then 3, then 4, I am currently on hiatus due to a severely injured hamstring that never seems to heal properly and an extreme lack of fitness due to same. Boo-urns.

Scheduling a two week break between games followed 3 games in 4 days. Nice work.

My team seems to consistently get screwed over by CUSA on a number of fronts. Discipline wise, we are looked at by them as some sort of pariah, yet we have won quite a few "fair play" awards.
The refs called one of our games in indoor due to the other teams actions, we were up 5 - 2 with less than 2 minutes to play. They ended up calling it a default for both teams and we were initially not awarded any points. This would have caused the team that committed the serious infraction to be pushed into a provincial spot instead of us. Even after appealing the thing to the CUSA board twice, they failed to rule in our favor. We ended up appealing to ASA, who ruled that CUSA didn't have jurisdiction over the matter in the first place.
Also, I have to love them booking games for 8:15 on fields with no lights.

Anyone played at Bottomlands recently? Notice how there's virtually no grass?
Although it is the Eagles' home field, it is actually owned and operated by the city. The city, in their wisdom, cut off the main water line and aren't planning on replacing it. The field hasn't been watered in over a year.
So maybe drop a line to your alderman and do a bit of whining - the more pressure the better. The place has potential, but without water, the fields are literally turning to sand.

allthough you get your equipment and stuff is free from your coach. You play for the worst coach in history. The rudest coach ever.
We use to play your alumni team. They were hard physical games yet mainly clean and the coach at the end of one game yelled at your players to not shake our hands. All class!! We had a good rivalry we were known for our defence as being big, fast and physical, always were near the top for GA. While you guys had the skill and offence with the razzle and dazzle.
Defnately good games, just felt bad for some of your players who kept getting yelled at by your coach for the worst reasons.
I think the number one reason you don't get as much respect as you think is because from my experience is that some of your players carried themselves like they owned the universe and acted like your coach. Then some of your other players were pretty down to earth cool guys.

Haha so true, I get offers every year to play on Div 1 teams, but I'd rather just play for the beer after the game and I am getting to old to run with these young punks nowadays. Playing sweeper is a young mans game and I am starting to hit the downturn of my playing days.

Oh, how about making you play in the crappiest weather imaginable rather than re-scheduling, because they're too lazy and then bitching about how the fields are all torn to hell.
Referees go without saying. Up in the higher divisions they feel like they're the whole show and then in the lower divisions you get the weakest, dumbest, slowest refs on the face of the earth.
Oh, and field times, 8:30 starts with no lights, in indoor, 11:00pm starts at the CWSC on weeknights, those are good times, takes like an hour to get home after, work the next day is loads of fun.

In think that the inconsistency with postponing games is what bothers me the most. A day like today = game goes ahead. A light morning dew = game is cancelled!
In fairness, it isn't CUSA's fault as the fields are closed by the city or whoever runs them, but I know what you mean. I actually love playing in cooler, wet weather. Wouldn't want to do it all of the time, but it is a nice novelty for me. My folks are from England. Enough said.
Semi-related: has anyone played on those new, artificial fields at Shouldice? Or SAIT for that matter? Thoughts? They're supposed to be the field turf variety, so you wear your usual boots.

I have played at both, we actually practice at SAIT twice a week.
I have completely changed my mind with respect to field turf. I Used to hate it with a passion, but now after getting used to it, I hate playing on our city's terrible grass pitches.
Yes you wear your normal boots. I just really like the consistency of the turf. Never have to worry about dirt patches or sprinkler holes.

Funny you should mention it. Our coach is one of the nicest people off the field I have ever met. He just loses his mind at times during the game. His rants really lose their sting after a season or two and you start to realize that he just gets into the game.
How did you know that we get all our swag for free? It was one of the biggest jokes around when we had our alumni team going. A division four team that was fully sponsored!?! We had half the league trying out every season.

Everyone knows two things about PARS.
1) you don't pay a thing to play and;
2) your jacka$$ coach drives nice cars
We were supposed to play Eagles tonight on their Bottomlands fields - looks like they are getting some much needed moisture.

We played against Lads Club on the new fields down at shouldice - apparently that turf is two generations newer than the stuff in at McMahon - and it's a dream to play on.

To be honest, I think that they're beyond repair this year. They weren't great to begin with, and this past year without watering has killed them. I'm no grass expert, but I'd say that they need to be shut down for a year to recuperate.
That being said, a good old soak isn't going to make them any worse!

The Pars coach used to try and kick us off a practice field in Edgemont all the time, claiming he booked it but never brought a permit sheet to prove it happend every Sunday. Then he'd send some morons over who were trying out to kick us off with threats.
