Apple Stock Watchers: Guess Who Isn't #3 Anymore?
Quote:
In the case of Apple, slightly over 900 million shares outstanding times over $250 per share yields a market capitalization of about $228 billion. Microsoft, meanwhile, has a share price of only slightly over $26.00 but over 8.75 billion shares outstanding, giving it a nearly equal market capitalization to Apple.

Can they catch Exxon, though?
And, as an aside, are Apple stocks even worth tracking anymore? I mean, at over $250/share, who can realistically afford to buy enough of them to really capitalize on any gains moving forward?
Edit: The bit about Apple having 900 million shares @ $250/per vs. MS having 8.75 billion shares @ $26.50/per cracks me up for some reason.
Add: Also, I imagine MS stock will start trending back up a bit when Office 2010 launches. I'm fairly impressed with it, myself.

I think its a good pick for call spread players at this point.

Wasn't the Apple megathread created specifically for stuff like this and info about the annual student discount?

Yeah, I'm concerned about that too. Hopefully we can have a legit discussion though. There are a lot of really smart people here, especially in the financial sector (or at least investment-oriented).
I love good conversations about investments, even though most of it is Greek to me.

It was, but people started complaining about it.

I didn't realize you were forced to open either thread.

There is nothing in my original post that should be in any way even remotely insulting to Apple haters. It's just a discussion. It's not going to kill anybody or bomb any third-world countries for their oil reserves.
Discuss, or don't discuss. Just don't be a freshly-scented bag of water with a plastic applicator about it.

True, and I've never complained about people starting too many threads, but 7 of the 20 threads on the first page are about Apple, and all of them are started by fanin80. It's not a big deal, but it does seem a little excessive.
Edit: If people complained about the megathread, then nevermind. If I cared about Apple, I'd have read that thread and would have known why you kept creating new posts. Though, if I cared about Apple, I probably wouldn't have minded all of the separate posts anyway. Oh well, this will be my first and last foray into complaining about threads. Carry on, and sorry for the derailment.

A few of those threads were created almost two years ago, and are still being bumped by other people who want to talk about them. In fact, there are only two threads on the entire page that were created by me within the last week. The rest are just ongoing discussions that people keep bumping.
Why do people keep running totals of my threads, anyway? I'm really not that interesting. Trust me.

All I know is that BP won't be competing for the top three anytime soon.

This short call spread isn't quite a bearish bet on AAPL; instead, it's more of a prediction that AAPL will remain below $290 through June expiration. In this scenario, all of the calls involved will expire worthless, and the trader can retain the initial net credit as the spread's maximum potential profit. However, even if the shares should unexpectedly surge past the sold strike, the purchase of the 300-strike calls acts as a hedge to limit the speculator's risk.

When I was 20, I received an inheritance and wanted to put $10,000 of it into Apple because of the Apple branded music player rumours. My dad sent me to his financial advisor and she somehow convinced me to invest in JDS uniphase and Nortel instead.
That $10,000 would be worth $300,000 today but instead I have $0.

I'm surprised they haven't already, or I wonder when they will split the stock.
I'm no expert on the market at all, but doesn't a split normally favour the company quite a bit?

If Verizon gets announced next month as a US carrier, any owners of APPL or Verizon stock will be very happy, and ATT stockholders will be very sad. If the HD gets slammed as underwhelming, I could see the stock taking a small drop as well.

Had an idea!

What exactly is so important about market cap again?
Where is Apple in terms of revenue and profit on the grand scheme of things?
