Default Apple Back-to-School Promo Starts Today

http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/cam...co=MTc5NzIzMTA

Same deal as every other year... Buy a Mac and get either an 8GB iPod Touch for free, or get $213 towards a 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.

Macs themselves are discounted up to $200 as well.

Now all I need is $2000 to spend on a $1000 computer and I can get a free ipod!

Someone was going to say it anyway, FanIn80, I just figured I would get it out of the way early so you can enjoy the rest of the thread.

now if I could get that $219 iPod credit put towards an iPad, that would be a tempting deal.

Ya you'd have to sell it off. As I recall (did this for my wife's iPod), you have to cut off the barcode on the iPod box and mail it to them to get the rebate, so you wouldn't be able to just take it into a store and exchange it for credit.

Yeah, I bought my 17" last year. Sold the iPod for $200 and saved $200 on the MacBook itself for a total of $400.

The iPods sell surprisingly quick.

The nest question is whether I do count as a student if I've only applied for a school to start in fall.

The question after that is whether someone has $1500 to give me, so that I can afford one.

Can you get this in store or do you have to get it online?

If you don't have any sort of post-secondary student number yet, you can bypass that screen by just clicking K-12 educator or whatever option that is. But yes, you do count as a student; both methods will give you the discount.

How does Apple verify any of this? Is it just that easy as saying youre and educator and youll get the discount?
It also says parents of higher education students can get the discount. How do you confirm this?

Splurged on a 17" i7 with SSD. Noice. Opted for the 16GB Nano. Super excited, ships in 1-3 days.

Sold my pre unibody 15" C2D. Should be a nice upgrade.

Back in the day while I was buying a comp for university, I clicked on the K-12 and there were no questions asked nor did Apple follow up.

I did this as I had friends who were in the same boat (going to Post secondary, but no student ID) that were successful.

Not sure if Apple checks but it worked for me four years ago!

Why did you type that in green? Sarcasm isn't needed, it's true.

Even though Macs are a very high end product that is way more powerful than what 90% of the population needs, they are not really that over priced in terms what the product actually is.

It's pretty much analogous to someone buying a Beamer or a Benz for every day driving. Sure there are Ford products that will do just as good of job for what people normally use there car for ie driving to work or carting around kids. If you try to claim a Ford is as good a car as a BMW you probably need to put down the crack pipe. Doesn't mean everyone should buy a Ford though.

I believe my wife needed to photocopy her student ID and send it in with the application form. You have to buy the iPod and then send away for a rebate. Took us about 2 months to get the cheque.

Having used this deal before online, never asked for student id of any sort. Also, now they offer direct deposit rebate, so if you include a void cheque with the rebate slip it only takes 1-2 weeks, instead of the prior 4 to 7

Yeah, got my rebate last year in just under two weeks (direct deposit). Also, my buddy was able to order a 15" MBP online with the same deal (last year), and even got his rebate deposited... and he hasn't been a student for 15 years.

Would you guys get applecare? I've heard mixed results, but if I get the base laptop ~$1150, is it worth it to spend the extra $200+?
