you can apparently get the maps out of order. i just happened to be riding around and found some treasure hunter that was getting murdered by bandits. when i went back to loot him, i found map #2. yet i have no idea how to get map #1 or anything else. i stumbled into it by luck, so apparently they don't have to be in order.
Are you sure it's map 2? That's how you acquire Map 1, and all the subsequent maps should be in the treasure chest where the previous one was found.

heck if i know. maybe it is map 1. in the pause menu under challenges, it says "treasure hunter - rank 2" so i just assumed i had somehow skipped the first one...

Whats the image on the map? Does it say "Hanging Rock" on it? If it does, that's the first map. The 2nd will say "Del Lobo Rock" and have 4 pictures.
Has anyone noticed the heat shimmer on the horizon in spots? I first noticed it near the first ranch, and I was really pleasantly surprised when I realized it was the game and not my eyes...

No, that's the first map. You get the Rank 1 by finding the map, Rank 2 by finding that treasure, and so on.

how the hell are you supposed to do the kill 2 cougars with the knife bit for the master hunter challenge? i keep getting my ass handed to me because they strike so quick and then run away immediately, only to come charging back. i can't get any strikes in on them at all

Yeah same here. First one was a piece of cake but the second one killed my horse and then almost killed me, luckily I had lots of medicine on me.
Anyone know where to find skunks? I used to see tons but now that it's a challenge I have only seen one. And I shot it with my buffalo rifle and it exploded and I couldn't find the carcas.

Yeah, I had one very hot and sunny day not too long ago. I was at the MacFarlane's Ranch and everything was shimmering with the intense heat... so awesome.
I played about 12 straight hours last night and about 6 hours today. Very seldom do I play a game this much.
This game is awesome. The wife has a slightly different opinion, mind you.
I am like you, very seldom do I play a game for a great amount of time. All I have to say, goodbye long weekend. I played this game all weekend. Best game I have played in a long time. 10 of 10 for me.

This game is definately going to keep me occupied for the summer, and i don't think ill be buying another game until NHL 11 comes out.
When i normally play games, my wife will grab a book and read, as anything videogame doesn't interest her at all. However, Upon glancing a few times from her book to see what I was playing, she ended up asking for the controller so she could try riding the horse.
The game is brilliant, and imo is the best game to come out in the past handful of years. I mean, any game that can get my wife who is an avid non gamer, playing and enjoying, is doing something REALLY right.
