Yup, that second period threw the tournament away.
All the credit in the world to Brandon on their effort tonight, but the Hitmen simply did not want to work hard enough tonight.

Sorta takes away from the legitimacy of the tournament when you get knocked out by a team that you already eliminated.

tough end to the season. It would be nice for the hitmen as a franchise to win one of these sometime soon.

Hats off to Brandon..It was almost like they were playing possum the whole time..Calgary just looked gasses..It's too bad, I thought we were going to make it to the final game.

There is no doubt the Wheat Kings did not earn their way here, but it is the format they use, and I don't really have a problem with it myself. Whatever else can be said about the tournament, on this night, Brandon most certainly deserved to win.

The Wheaties were the better for the last 43 minutes and deserved to win, if not for Jones, this game was a complete blow out. It didn't look like the Hitmen had any gas tonight, terrible, terrible play in their own zone.
Nevertheless, thanks to the Hitmen for a great season.

I was afraid that would happen. BDN only had to show up for one game since the playoffs started. The refs were reluctant to make calls against the home team in an elimination game.
The format of this tourney is broken. I don't think we will be seeing the two best teams in the final.

I agree BDN deserved to win tonight, but it's not an answer to say "that's just the way it is" for the format. It can be, and should be fairer.
I wonder if they could do an NCAA bracket tourney, with the top 8 or 16 teams in the CHL?

I'm not sure how that would improve things? I imagine that you would not want to destroy the integrity of each league's playoffs, so I have to admit I am at a loss to understand how replacing a tournament with one undeserving participant with another that has five or 13 is a better format?

Just day-dreaming, but anything must be better than this.
How about the three league champions getting the top 3 seeds? Add the next best five based on CHL rankings. Make the final a best of 3.
Might increase interest, and does away with the host team unfair advantage.
Should not increase the length of the season much, if at all.

Well this will be the last time i watch the memorial cup. The whole tournament format is flawed. Its just not right that the Hitmen beat the Brandon Wheat Thins 5 straight games, and lose 1 game to the host team. Hitmen are a better team than Brandon.

Brandon knocks off Calgary in the semi. Windsor beats Brandon in the finals.
I think it'll take Brandon some time to get going in the round robin but I think they will pull the upset behind a wild home crowd in the semi and then lose a competitive final.
Taylor Hall should feast on the goaltending in this tournament.

Don't tell me Brandon didn't deserve to be in this tournament. They were right there with the Hitmen, amongst the class of the WHL all season long and likely would have beaten Tri Cities if they had gotten past Calgary and made it into the finals.
The Memorial Cup system has been the way it has for decades and to say the Wheat Kings had no business being there is nothing but sour grapes. Despite what happened in the East Semi's, these teams are about as close as you can possibly get in terms of talent. Brandon has a deeper forward core while Calgary makes up with a deeper set of D and a better goaltending.
The first two periods tonight by Braydon Schenn were some of the most dominating I have ever seen. He won every battle, was driving to the net for chances every shift and was easily the most dominant player on the ice tonight. I was tremendously impressed by his heart.
