I took a few daytrips to Waterton when I lived in Lethbridge but never overnighted. Any recommended accommodations anyone has used?

Strand's is really good. Really pricey though. There use to be this place in Radium too HelnaStube's or something like that.

Oh, I got one for you - a bit of a drive (5-6 hrs) - but if you are looking for something quiet, Nakusp, B.C. Lake/beach and hot springs. Get a B&B.

When I went last, I stayed at Shintangle Springs B&B:

http://www.shintanglespring.com/

It is a bit of a drive outside of the town. Nice people and a good view. Since we arrived rather late, we kind of got there and went to bed, and then hit the road in the morning. So we didn't really hang out much with the hosts.

The decor was a little "cottagy" if you know what I mean. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it didn't really have that mountainy rustic feel. Won't matter much as you'll probably be out and about all day anyway, and with any luck, having your way with your GF the rest of the time.

Nelson and Nakusp are pretty long drives, when I lived in Calgary I would go to Kimberley regularly. Easy 4 hr drive, real easy.

Emerald Lake, all the way! Quick drive around to spectacular Takakkaw Falls.

Just past Field, BC (and the Alberta-BC border).

Prince of Wales Hotel is really nice, but probably expensive too. One downside of living 45 min away is I never stay overnight.

Climbing up Bears Hump is pretty cool too. You overlook the town when you're on top.

Try the Waterton Glacier Suites. The rooms are clean & decent size, and most of them have a fireplace. I have also stayed at both the Crandell Mountain Lodge and the El Cortez before and both were pretty.....well, rustic. The El Cortez has recently been re-done and is now called the Bear Mountain Motel, so it may have been fixed up. The Waterton Lakes Resort is also supposed to be very nice, but I have never stayed there myself.

If you want something a little more historical, try the Prince of Wales hotel. It's no Banff Springs, but the service is very good and the view is worth a million bucks. The rooms are a little on the small side, but you're paying for the experience. It's haunted too, so lock your door at night.

Prince of Wales hotel:

Bump.

Ok - thanks for all the great ideas. At the end of the day we decided to spend a little money and we're booked into Seattle from June 3rd to 7th. Any tips? Must-see's? Things to avoid?

If you're up to it, climbing Sulpher Mountain in Banff is pretty cool.

Seems to me every hotel over 60 years old claims it's haunted for some reason!
