The Roots new album will be entitled "Rising Down". This past Monday, ?uestlove posted this on the Okayplayer.com message boards.

Quote:
"the obligatory ?uesto gets our hopes up about this damn record."

this is all im gonna say.

if yall ever heard me spin a roots song in the club

you know it was a snowballs chance in hell turn.

(mind you making the giles/web song my last song of the night and the oh so obvious "seed" song--i tested and true str--sorry--gentleman's club classic---hahaha---don't count.)

yall know if there is ANYTHING i hate more in the world dj'n (like getting interrupted while im in the damn zone!)---

it's playing roots songs.

why?

i just don't think they are sonically made for the club.

they are made for ipods and home systems and even driving....

but rhythmic and sonicwise the last place i think of adjusting this music for is in the club.

now i really been getting my "dj ?uesto" on (the way you know now) for 7 years (been dj'n since 81---but now i mean on a professional 4 gigs a week thing)--

and no roots hardly.

last night....

i rocked 5 songs son!

and not like "eh...oh god please don't let the floor clear" play em

i mean like "IM ABOUT TO ALL YALL MOFOS UP WITH THIS SHIEEEEEET!!!!" chest sticking out .

and of course it is ever so blasphemy for me to EVER allude to this album being better than the untarnished TFA record (or IH for all you oh so influenced by the source's @@@@1/2 review)---

but all that,

(and yeah i cursed)

1. the rhymes are so on point target

2. the music can't get no better

3. you will looooooove the guest contributions (and not for nothin? but mos gives imo his best verse in like 5-6 years....and although he was heated as hell....this is my favorite kweli delivery in his career)

4. the cover is clever (and scary as )---we got some from the reconstruction in the late 1800's

5. man...you know i NEVER EVER EVER EVER be all proud like this .---

what do you want me to do? im sorry!!!

THIS right here?

i aint saying this is my favorite baby....

but got damn this is my prettiest baby.

coming soon! 127-140

I cant seem to find it existing on vinyl at all, either in catalog or for sale. Found a couple singles on ebay (Shimmy shimmy and some other track from RTT36C), both were like 40 bucks.

One day. One day.

Bump for a ridiculously good FREE album download I discovered the other day.

I mentioned The ARE before, specifically two instrumental EPs he put out- Manipulated Marauders and Dem Damb Jacksons. Both are also available for free from his site www.rappersiknow.com. I was browsing through some stuff there and stumbled across his "Still Climbing EP." It's a 30 track mostly instrumental EP, full of crazy dope chopped up beats that I can't get enough of. Some of the track tags/volume levels are a little wonky, but it's free.

Here's the link:

http://rappersiknow.com/media/theare...mbing%20EP.zip

Edit: Here's the MM link (also a free album d/l, nothing shady going on mods)

I second Rising Tied by Fort Minor...

Love Bone Thugs n Harmony, dunno about their newest stuff. It's kind of lacking something. I still listen to E. 1999 Eternal a lot though, and I like Strength and Loyalty.

Wu Tang Clan - 36 Chambers is great, but I really like their last album (8 Diagrams) a lot more than I thought I would. I had Wu-Tang Forever and sold it after like a year, didn't like it so much. I have a lot of their solo stuff, but my favorite is still Method Man.

T.I. - I actually really hate T.I. vs Tip. It's my least favorite and Paper Trail is my second. I prefer King (and his first two, but they really feel 'dirty south'.. not everyone's into that)

Other stuff I have (mentioned or not, I'm too lazy)

Common - Be
Talib Kweli - Beautiful Struggle, Quality, and Ear Drum
Jay Z - The Black Album, Blueprint III
Dr. Dre - The Chronic, 2001
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor, The Cool
Eminem - everything but Relapse, I refuse to go near it. =P
Nas - Illmatic, It Was Written, Nas/the one that he wanted to be named Ni**er, Nastradamus but it sucks.
Redman - I don't even know his album names. I have a lot, but my favorites are the ones with Method Man (Blackouts).
Q Tip - The Renaissance
Ice Cube - Raw Footage
BIG - Ready To Die
Snoop - Doggystyle, random mixtapes
Tupac - I used to have all his CDs, now my iTunes has some greatest hits and 2Pacalypse Now but that's about it. And maybe Me Against The World.
DMX - And Then There was X

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot but some of it sucks and/or I need sleep.

Probably my favourite LL Cool J song, from 1993.

And a Gang Starr song to finish things off.

The new Bone Thugs came out the other day. Not very good at all. A couple songs were ok but nothing special. Strength & Loyalty was a good album though. These songs are probably the best ones off the new one:

Run DMC (maybe i missed seeing thier name)

as an aside i was looking to download the mission by special ed from itunes the other day and i could not find it.

i like most 80's/90's hip hop because it is a little more kid friendly that some of the more recent stuff.

Not sure how well known the album is - but check out The Brand New Heavies' album 'Heavy Rhyme Experience Vol.1' (1993). Features a really good line-up...Black Sheep, Masta Ace, Kool G Rap, Grand Puba, Gangstarr, Pharcyde, etc. etc. Always thought it sounded pretty smooth.

Did anyone mention Grand Puba's 'Reel to Reel' (1992)? Loved that album.

I really like that last one especially. I just wasn't too keen on the singles other than Rebirth, but these songs remind me of old Bone Thugs.

Meh, I'll probably buy the album anyway on iTunes even if the rest of it sucks. I'm just too much of a fan. =P I tried to see them 2-3 years ago but they postponed one show and couldn't get across the border for their rescheduled one... heh.

New stuff, but I thought Public Enemy's most recent album 'How you sell soul...' was actually quite good.
