What baffles my mind is instead of yelling swears left and right why couldn't any of those fools press the help button and inform the C-train operator.

So we proceed to fly down the road and he's going about 70kmph when we hit this thing that we later found out is called suicide corner. We were drifting like something feirce. The only thing is we ran out of road and fell off the edge of a cliff. Thankfully we got caught about 10 feet down the embankment on two tiny trees. These trees held us up while we all bolted out of the car. We all climbed to the top of the cliff (about an 75 degree incline) and got back onto the road. If it wasn't for those two tiny trees we would have had a 200 foot free fall into some trees then into the bow river. I still thank my lucky stars that I didn't die that day. Since then I won't get into the car with a drunk driver.

Oh yeah it took 4 tow trucks to get the car back up onto the road. We got a call at like 10 in the morning from my buddy's dad who said the RCMP had called him wondering about a car that was off the edge of a cliff (they ran his tags and called his parents house phone).

Funny part is that if you'd pulled tail from Aurora you'd probably be in the midst of some sort of STD related death so really you dodged a bullet by choosing to drive off a cliff instead.

more likely just some poor shmoe standing on the corner of 6th and Columbia trying to sell some crank.

Read the CBC article, they did and it seems like they got little response.

I get the impression that they hit the help button, but I'm not sure if it was a case of getting little response. I believe protocol is for operator to wait until they get to the next station and then they investigate the problem in person. Since they were between stations, the operator had to wait until they got to 8th Street West Station, at which point he got out of the cab and investigated the incident. That's how I understand it anyway.

My Darwin story involves me stepping outside of a Home Depot and moving away from the doors to have a smoke while I waited for my ride. I half finished the smoke and turned around to the a whole wall full of full propane tanks that I was leaning against ...

I witnessed another similar event once, at the Cum and Go in Butte, Montana (Btw, Best Gas Station/City Name Combo ever!), we finished paying for our stuff and asked about a nearby campground were were supposed to spend the night in so the attendant walked out to our car with us, where he stood to light his cigarette right beside the pump.

Last week I was driving way North of Edmonton on an single lane undivided highway. It was raining a lot, so all my windows were fogged, and I had a small window to look through. The drive was going good until I was behind this super slow truck. I followed it for a fair bit, then decided to pass. So I go into the passing lane/on going traffic (it was clear) and for a few seconds I thought it was a two lane highway. So I was probably driving along side this truck for about 2-3 seconds until I realized there was a huge truck in my lane coming at me. I managed to gun the car and get enough distance to just cut in when the other car passed. The other car actually started to swerve into the divider.

I managed to gun the car and get enough distance to just cut in when the other car passed. The other car actually started to swerve into the divider.

I've unfortunately been at the scene of a multiple fatality head on crash, I seen the poof of smoke/steam at impact, and heard the (literally) blood curdling screams of horror/pain and seen the flames and had the thoughts of watching the live ones burn alive... it was awful.

People scare me when they don't take driving seriously, it's the most dangerous thing you do people, Pay attention ! /rant

I pretty much did the same thing driving across Saskatchewan a few years ago, I'd been driving about 12 hours, not so much tired as zoned out, most of the highway through Alberta is 4 lane, then you hit the half arsed 2 lane parts in Sask'.
Pulled out to overtake a truck and spent about 3 minutes on the wrong side of the road thinking it was wierd that everyone was driving on the one side of the carriage way! then saw a car coming towards me and realised what I was doing, no danger but an object lesson in taking a better break schedule when your doing the Vancouver to the 'Peg run.

Yup for sure I was stupid. I drove from Calgary and was on the road for like 4 hours (not that long) but I was getting a little tired. I quickly learnt from that lesson.

When I was driving back to Calgary from Edmonton, I didn't even make Wetaskawin and I was feeling really sleepy so I pulled over to a pit stop. Slept for 15 minutes and was good to go until I hit Red Deer and got a Coffee. Thank God that I did, that was the day with the snow storm and driving back most cars were going Max 80.

A buddy of mine died when he fell asleep at the wheel leaving Edmonton coming back to Lethbridge. He went off the road close to the Ponoka exit. He left with his seat belt on, but his brother figured he must've undone it at some point trying to get at some CDs or something. He hit the guard rail right at the start of the rail and rolled down the ditch. Hammered right into the windshield. His twin brother was in the car at the time, asleep when the accident happened, but had his seatbelt on. They were 21 at the time.

Driving is scary stuff.

Definitely too good to be true that everyone was actually adhering to the 'keep right except to pass' rule.
