Prospal will be signed depending on what he wants. If it is too much we'll let him walk. I really want to encourage GM's to stay reasonable during the UFA period. Giving Brad Richards $10,000,000 is crazy talk so I hope that was a joke.
We should all try to think more like real GM's in the NHL and only pay players what they are really worth, not just giving them whatever just to keep them.

I agree somewhat, its much easier said then done to let a 66-68 OVR player just walk for nothing.

Rangers list looks accurate;
Forwards are all available; Hibert, White, Winchester, Barch
Dman are available (may sign one); Ericksson, Kubina, Robidas, Salvador.

I'll be re-signing Miller for sure, that one is a no-brainer and he'll be $10mm. As for the other guys they'lll be traded or let go. And I agree with MJK that GM's should let go of guys instead of giving them grid deals but I can't see it happening. It's awfully tough to let a 66+ OVR guy go for nothing and then having to rely on free agency. It'd be nice having less grid deals out there but I just don't see it happening.

I will be letting go players for nothing if it comes down to it. I will not be stuck with good players with superstar contracts. Just a personal preference I guess but it is the smart thing to do for every franchise.
Miller is a superstar player and is worth $10,000,000. There are only a handful of players out there worth that kind of coin.

That's the point of the grid - to create hard decisions and force GM's to make choices.

The only UFA I have that I'll consider retaining is Kevin Bieksa. Similar to how Chris Phillips has his rating fall to 65 OV last year after an off year Bieksa had an off and injury filled year. But if his rating was to go down to a certain level, it would be worth retaining him given his age and that he's bounced back from other off years in the past. If not than I'll have to put him in the UFA pool.

Zidlicky and Turco will most likley be re-signed. Everyone else can go play for the Oilers.

Good chance that Burrows remains in Pittsburgh. He is a part of our long term plans as of right now. That can obviously change.
Moore and Kozlov will be let go.

Turco and Thomas are the ones that should be interesting. Turco will probably get a starting gig somewhere else in the NHL but San Jose has a REALLY hard decision on Thomas.

I wouldn't re-sign Thomas - I'm stuck with Biron for 2 more years now on a horrible deal because I guessed wrong about him staying a #1 with another team.

Except watch out for Doug "the goalie farm" or Dean the "9.99 mill contract giver".

Thanks Pat.
Islanders will not be trading for any UFA rights as we had traded away picks or signed players for what ended up to be nothing in the end. We may resign a player or 2 but nothing too crazy (Trying to be smart about it anyway)

See for guys like Turco and Thomas, I'd let them goto UFA and then just offer them a grid deal or close to it...but at least you'd be able to keep the contract 2w if you needed it

I don't mind one year contracts that are over priced. It's when a GM still signs a UFA to a multi year deal and over prices the player that annoys me. Like Todd Bertuzzi last year.....64 OV guy would be a 4.5 million dollar guy yet some bone head gives him 5.5 million because it's two years and he can put him on his AHL team because it's a two way deal!
