Aux port on my MP3 car stereo

I bought a Sony MP3 car stereo 3 1/2 years ago with an auxilary port. In the last few months it has been giving me trouble, as it sounds like it's only coming properly out of 1 speaker. I have to wiggle it and hold it in place to hear both. I have a 3.5mm cable I plug into my iPod that worked beautifully for 3 years. I tried compressed air on the port itself on the faceplate but that didn't work. I'm passed warranty, so does anyone have suggestions? Thanks

It's usually the cable that breaks and not the port. Have you tried another cable?

Yes and it didn't make a difference. I even tried the same cord and iPod on a different stereo and it worked fine. Even with my new iPhone it wont' work.

I had this exact same problem with my sony deck. It also sounded like it was a common problem.

The wires connecting the main board to the aux jack are very thin and fragile. They easily break off at the solder point. Its easy enough to fix if you are comfortable with soldering, take it apart and either re-solder the wires or replace them with more durable ones.

Thanks for the advise! I've never soldered in my life or know anything about soldering, is there anywhere that I could take it to be to re-solder? I don't think I could replace them myself either.

There's probably small electronic repair shops around that could do it for you. It doesn't take that long so hopefully they wouldn't charge much. Or try and find a buddy who knows how to do it.
