Default Skyservice shutting down

Don't know if too many of you use them, but they were always a good option in the past.

Not surprising, charter airlines are getting hit big time with the recession and with Westjet increasing its vacations biz.

Hopefully too many people dont get burned by this.

I flew with them to Vegas once, before WestJet and Air Canada started offering regularly scheduled flights down there. It was something I had no desire to ever repeat.

It was a Sunday morning flight, and on the Friday, I got a call telling me that the flight had been re-scheduled and was going to leave an hour earlier. On Sunday, I got to the airport to check in for the earlier flight, and it turned out that it had been re-scheduled again and would now be leaving more than an hour after it was originally scheduled to leave, or more than 4 hours from the time I got to the airport. I think we ended up leaving at least a half an hour later than even the later re-scheduled departure time.

I don't think I received so much as an apology for the inconvenience.

To top it off, not only did they charge $5 for headphones, but the in-flight movie on the flight back was the horrible Cedric the Entertainer PoS, Johnson Family Vacation.

Have you seen Johnson Family Vacation? I was traumatized.

Do you think it's too late to file a complaint with the Human Rights Commission?

I took Skyservice to Dominican Republic and back. As we were sitting in their outdoor airport waiting to board, and watching our luggage load, the side of the plane all of a sudden was covered in flames about 40 feet high. They made us sit in the airport for 6 hours while they took pictures of the plane and sent them to Toronto to confirm it was ok for the plane to fly. No offer to take another flight or put us up somewhere. We took off at 4 am. Called them to see about some kind of credit for the inconvenience and they said they didnt offer credits for that situation and it was out of their hands. That was 8 years ago and when we vacation 1-2 a year we make sure we dont use them. No explanation as to why the side of the plane was on fire.

Interesting development. Air Transat was struggling over this last year so this may come as some relief to them, but Westjet and Air Canada Vacations continue to charge hard into this sun travel market.

WestJet announced service to all Cuban destinations from Toronto starting tomorrow.

I am going to Cuba in a couple of weeks and this nearly gave me a heart attack. Thankfully I am flying with Sunquest (which is related). Details for those that have flights booked are as per link. Looks like only Winnipeg and Toronto affected.

I work at the airport and I can remember Skyservice regularly being hours late. Occasionally, their flights were even an entire day or more late.

Yes they were a good option if you were under 5 feet tall and less than 100 lbs. Those were some crappy planes. I have never been so cramped. The price was right though
