It's philosophical, he just thinks that people should be able to speak freely without the intimidation of an angry mob of ruffians.

I think you are still missing my point. How can any conservative political scientist not know who Ann Coulter is or what is her agenda?
He arranged the speech but he doesn't know what she's about? Maybe he can arrange a platform for me to speak.

In Canada the main source is the CBC, which is definitely left leaning.
However, like most things in Canada our definition of left leaning is pretty bland compared to other countries.
In fact relative to just about every other country in the world both our right and left wings are centrist.
You'd never see a party anywhere close to the British National Party receiving large amounts of votes in Canada. Or at the very least it hasn't happened anytime recently.

Maybe he concerns himself with the views of actual politicians and political scientists. Maybe he doesn't care or concern himself with what shock radio DJs have to say.

Thats fine. No one really listens to what Ann Coulter says anyways.
But in the article it says he helped organizers arrange the event. How can he not be familiar with her work?

This is very true. I think that is partly the reason for the reaction to someone like Ann Coulter. In the US, her views fall within their spectrum as it is broader. In Canada, she's on the edge or beyond what people are generally accustomed to here because, as you say, we are certainly more centrist. I get the impression that she's too conservative for a lot of conservatives here.

After the fall of Iron Curtain, one of the things that shocked me the most was the realization how far to the left western world really is. In fact most right-wingers I know are people who grew up in communism.

Sorry, I hate to be 'that guy' that didnt read the thread and isnt going to but is going to throw his 2 cents in at the end and just naturally assume that I am the unique little snowflake who thought of this or believes that and no one else does or hasnt thrown it in yet but here goes:
What distinguishes Coulter from any other shock comic? I dont know if I'm too naive or uninformed to feel that she cant possibly be genuinely ######ed enough to believe even half the bull she spews but that she merely flaps those ######ed gums of hers in order to generate enough potential energy to move a wind turbine fast enough to power New York for years.
What seperates her from the 'Howard Sterns' of the world?
She says what she says to generate controversy, make headlines and get premium time in newspapers, on TV, radio, etc. She never seems to deal with the aftermath of her comments, she to me to be like the 'whack-a-mole' of the political commentary arena. She pops up and says something inflammatory or generally offensive to those easy to offend and then ducks away until its relatively safe again to pop her head back up.
Case in point. WTF is she even doing in Canada? Hasnt she publicly stated some irrationally hateful things about Canada? Something along the lines of it being a pity that we've been 'allowed to exist' on the same continent as the loving US of A?
Her whole schtick reeks of publicity whore and there doesnt seem to be any sort of redeeming quality or hell, really, substance of any kind.
Just me? Also, the word 'ruffians' is hilarious by the way. Just thought I'd chime in on that.

Ann Coulter is like a cold sore. The first time it pops up it is devastating, for everyone. But then, as years pass you come to accept it and hope it stays in remission forever.
Not to mention, she is totally a dude.

I remember when my English teachers (university educated Americans) always used to say that "you guys tried to do the right thing, tried to achieve a noble goal but your leaders somehow screwed up along the way." It floored the whole class when we heard that for the first time Good times.

The teachers here (Canada) are all aspiring CPSS members. I was actually very left wing until I was 17. Then I grew up, left school, and realized that they were all idiots.
P.S. I keed, I keed. Not all... most.
P.P.S. I love teachers, especially the gals who teach Grade 1 and 2... Mmmm....

Well that's a relief, I might have been suspicious if it had just been you....but now that you mentioned the other lawyer, my mind is at ease.
