What the hell does that mean? Most of the Canadian media I see is conservative leaning. I do not see CTV, Global, the Herald or Globe and Mail advocating a change to socialized post-secondary education, childcare, or raising the minimum wage to a livable level.

Which indicates that they are doing what they should be...as in not advocating anything.

It is not the role of the media to advocate social policy in any way, shape or form. Their job is to report thhings, investigate things, and present them to the messes for consumption and allow those same people to draw their own conclusions.

So that means that most mainstream media in Canada is niether liberal nor conservative. Unlike the US where left or right leaning media has almost become an industry unto itself.

Or maybe it shows how they have made partisanship less obvious.

Throwing their support for the conservatives every election is not the only public indication of their leanings.

That is an accusation both sides make every election...meaning that its much more likely they do niether.

Certainly there is the usual editorial throwing support one way or the other once election day draws near, but that has no bearing on results...ever. Normally it is the losing side that makes claims about such things, but in reality if one was to go through every newspaper Canada wide after an election, there would probably be an even split on who supported who at the end. Unless of course there was a scandal/gaffe of large proportions by either side/leader. Then its a no brainer to go the other way in opinion pieces.

I think our views what is left/right would be worlds apart...

PS Why people keep saying they don't think Coulter believes what she says? Yeah she likes to use hyperboles (and people pick these hyperboles out of context to "prove" she's a lunatic) but I'd say in principle she believes in what she says/writes. Why wouldn't she?

As expected, Canadian civil liberties groups are stepping foward to defend Coulter's right to speak and say the circumstances of the cancellation is an embarrassment to the University of Ottawa.

As well,

Alan Harrison, the provost of the University of Calgary, said security will be increased because of what happened in Ottawa.

Harrison said he wants to ensure that everyone is safe and that Coulter receives the same respect for her views as anyone else would

I'm registered to go see her tonight. If anything, she should be good for a laugh.

Other than some idiot pulling the fire alarm and fire trucks descending on the place and everyone being evacuated. Yeah, nothing was stopping her.

Of course, this is how the fataing Globe spins it in their headline: "Spurned in Ottawa, Ann Coulter gets a big welcome from Calgary"

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1511247/

Yeah, because allowing someone to speak, is the same as giving them a "big welcome".

Every article about Calgary/Alberta they write about spins the headline and story into a giant hate-on. It seems to generate a lot of hits and comments on their website stoking this pervasive anti-Alberta sentiment. It was the same thing when Bush came to speak. The commentary was that only in Alberta, would Bush be welcomed to speak!! A month later he spoke to a sold out audience in Toronto. Again, when Sarah Palin came to town. Welcomed as a hero to oil country, yeeehaw!!!! yeah, right, like most Albertans see remotely eye-to-eye with someone like Palin.

God, I hate the Globe!

I'm guessing there might be a news crew or two there.

You must be a disciple of old Leon Trotsky to think that the Canadian media is conservative. Seriously. There is that awful rag Macleans, which clearly speaks for the leftish wing of the Liberal Party. The National Post is definitely the Conservative paper. The Globe is the Liberal mouthpiece. The ND's being irrelevant only have the Toronto Star.

Remind me not to take a class with this guy.

Rainer Knopff, a political scientist at the University of Calgary who is known for his conservative views as part of the so-called Calgary School, helped arrange the event for organizers, although he’s not familiar with Ms. Coulter’s work. In light of what happened in Ottawa, he’s not surprised by the increased interest in Calgary

$$$

Not to say if she does or doesn't believe what she's writing, but money would probalby be a huge motivating factor in why she's doing what she's doing. Millions of Christian conservatives in the US will lap up anything she says.

If she was after the money, why not cater to the liberals? I'd say that is a MUCH bigger market both in the North America and worldwide...
