Compared to last weeks episode a 100000x better and for the last run of episodes, way better. And we did actually see the story advanced, which is nice with only 7 episodes left. That being said, I feel more and more distant from the show I really liked not so long ago.

I, for one, thought that this episode revealed the most of any prior. Enough teasing, from here on out, the important bits of the story will be unraveled.

I'll believe that when I see it. I still think we're going to have to wait to see answers till the very end and even then it feels like a lot will be left for interpretation then with actual answers

I thought there was a lot answered. By revealing Richard's purpose, it also shows why he set up groups like the others. There was always speculation about this, but now it was revealed.
Also the way Jacob said he could be replaced, suggests that he expects to die at some point. Perhaps he was not the first to take his position. He knows that eventually he will die so he brings a continual supply of new people to the island to replace him just in case. Smokey is given the power to kill but can only kill those he know could never replace Jacob, therefore, he judges everyone first.
All in all, I was hoping this was a direction the show wouldn't take. I liked the initial episodes where there was a rational explanation to what at first seemed totally supernatural.

Well, how satisfied you will be with the answers depends on your expectations. Honestly, last night revealed a lot of what I expect to fully be answered by the show. The only question, the big question, is whether the Losties we came to know actually changed anything. I.e. whether the alternative timeline becomes the reality, and the island ceases to exist. OR, if a candidate is chosen to replace Jacob, and things go on in perpetuity.
There are lots of details some would want explained, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

Now the question goes back to Charles Widemores purpose with the Island.
Why would he want to kill the MIB? Does he serve Jacob, does he see himself as a candidate.
Or does he want to make a deal with the devil?

It seems this season and the series for that matter is heading towards an epic struggle between good and evil with Jacob trying hurriedly to anoint one of the candidates before the MIB\Locke monster escapes.
And just when all hope is lost and it looks like the MIB will escape, one of the candidates (Jack Probably) will be annointed the new "Jacob" and the MIB will be stuck on the island once more.
It will be over but not truly over.
I think we are going to be bombarded with characters from the past in Seinfeld series finale style that were somehow, someway brought to the island by Jacob to slow the escape of the MIB until the new Jacob finally realizes his destiny.
I still have a ton of questions though that better be answered.
-Desmond (Maybe the second most interesting character, where is he?)
-Farraday (He seemed like a crazy dude, what was he up to?)
-Farraday's mother (Crazy old lady with big ass pendulum in basement what was that about?)
-Ben (Still don't entirely understand his story, is he just a wannabe bad guy leader, and is that it? or is there more to him?)
-Jacks Dad (I think more than just Jack saw him, was he one version of the smoke monster because he came to the island dead like Locke? If so why was his body missing and Locke's wasn't?)
I could go on.
One last thing, Sayid is my favorite character, bad dude who you just can't help but cheer for.....kinda like Mr Eko. I thought they deserved better fates.

I could see a lot of what you're saying happening.
To answer a few questions
-Desmond (Maybe the second most interesting character, where is he?)
In the current timeline he's with Penny as far as we know. Could be on the sub? Alternate timeline we haven't seen him.
-Farraday (He seemed like a crazy dude, what was he up to?)
In the current timeline he's dead (killed by his mother) however in the alternate timeline we haven't seen him.
-Farraday's mother (Crazy old lady with big ass pendulum in basement what was that about?)
Either timeline we don't know. I'd assume she's probably with Widmore in some way or fashion as she could predict where the island is using her crazy ass pendulum.
-Ben (Still don't entirely understand his story, is he just a wannabe bad guy leader, and is that it? or is there more to him?)
Ben seems to want power, and nothing else. He'll do whatever it takes, and say whatever it takes to get it. I don't think he's broken like we're seeing, I think he's got a plan and the plan right now is to seem like a defeated man. Alternate timeline he's more concerned about others than power.
-Jacks Dad (I think more than just Jack saw him, was he one version of the smoke monster because he came to the island dead like Locke? If so why was his body missing and Locke's wasn't?)
Jack's dad could be effected by "the darkness" like Desmond, and Claire. Or he simply could be the smoke monster . . . I don't have an opinion on that yet. In the alternate reality he's dead.

I think that episode was so great because we didn't have to put up with Kate and her random, useless and stupid BS.

I remember hearign some talk about Walt being a major player for the end game....maybe that's just been abandoned.
It actually seems like ever since that nuke, many things relating to the previous seasons have been abandoned and the priority is the good/evil thing.

Does anyone else think that the "alternate timeline" is actually a flashforward?

nah, unless Jack had two fathers. Claire got knocked up again, and Ben's dad had never died.
