Default Coolant Flush?

Any recommendations for a good place to go for a coolant flush for my 05 Mazda 3? The dealership I take my car to for oil changes offered to do it, I asked him the price and he told me $150 just for the flush, told him to pound sand.

Any suggestions?

Any oil change place in town will be able to do that for you for a way cheaper price.

Try an independant garage and see what they charge. Their labour rates are usually cheaper that the dealerships.

And stay away from those oil change places. A lot of those employees don't know what the hell are doing. Last time in a place like that some moron forgot to tighten the plug on my oil pan after doing an oil change.

Which is exactly why I have been going to dealerships for oil changes, they charged a pretty competitive price for those but are way off the wall with other basic stuff like this. I was hoping for some garage suggestions as opposed to jiffy lube or other such places.

Doing your own coolant flush is about as effective as peeing into a fan......
The home jobbie consists of dumping in some semi corrosive additive into the cooling system, starting the car up to circulate the stuff...dump everything out, refill with fresh antifreeze and be happy with yourself about a job well done....but this way kinda sux....when you drain the rad, you are only getting about 1/3 of the coolant out of the system, so its not really effective.....
Also, you truly need counter flow to be effective....You need to cut flushing tees into the heater core line, and an adapter for the rad cap or top of the rad. get everything nice and hot (to ensure thermostat is open), hook up to the nice Wynns flush machine....and let 'er rip....
This is especially true on cars that used DEXCOOL, an attempt by GM to make long lasting antifreeze that actually turned to sand when exposed to air...terrible terrible stuff....

I took my car to Option Import for a coolant flush. They got me in the next day and charged me about half the price($84 all in) the Quick Lube place up the road which was $159 or $179 depending on the color of my coolant(really?).

I will be taking my car there in the future. They specialize in Honda/Acura but I'm sure they would do a good job on routine maintenance on any car.

I believe the owner worked for 7 years in service at an Acura dealership in town.

Thanks to this thread my car is going to be happy.

Red coolant is a long life product, green is cheaper.

Make sure you see the coolant/anti freeze strength with your own eyes, -40 for example. If they do it wrong it could freeze your block or overheat.

Don't forget to rotate your wipers as well.

Seriously, doing your own coolant flush can be a pain in the rear.....one of those things I gladly pay someone else to do.

I'd highly recommend Kal-Tire. They do all kinds of stuff, are typically warranty approved, and charge a really low rate for really good service.

+1 for Option Import, it's the best thing that happened to Honda owners since the invention of VTEC, lol.

Anyone know what the rough charge for a 'timing BELT' change on a Honda Accord is there? (Pretty common repair so maybe someone knows.)

Does Option actually do a positive pressure coolant flush - AKA not just a hose in the radiator?

I just tried calling them, but their number is disconnected.

Did they go out of business or something?
