Prom cancelled because of lesbian teen

JACKSON, Miss. – A lesbian student who wanted to take her girlfriend to her senior prom is asking a federal judge to force her Mississippi school district to reinstate the dance it canceled.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi on Thursday filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Oxford on behalf of 18-year-old Constance McMillen, who said she faced some unhappy classmates after the Itawamba County School District said it wouldn't host the April 2 prom.
"Somebody said, 'Thanks for ruining my senior year,'" McMillen said of her reluctant return Thursday to Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton.

I saw this yesterday and my first thought was that they are tying to get her lynched. There are bound to be some angry cretins over this.

There's a picture on the link, knock yourself out. 
Back on topic, not sure why they'd cancel the dance. Don't the usually have a separate dance for alternate lifestyles because they don't allow them to join in a lot of the backwater States?
Not saying that's the solution either, but I'm suprised they'd cancel the whole thing.

They cancelled it because their options were to either go ahead with the dance and allow her to come with a female date or stick to their policy and find their asses in court. If there's no dance there's no disparate impact and therefore no lawsuit.

The thread title should be changed to say that the prom was cancelled because of the idiocy of the school board. The lesbian just gave them the opportunity to show their stupidity.
