It has to do with your grade, it can be all seen in My NHL -> Performance Tracker
Every level has its own requirements and you'll get them by playing more games and getting better grades

You need to play online EASHL games or community games. Anything offline won't count. Your goal should be to play up to 150 games and get an A- overall grade. Along the way you'll hit milestones and get points for upgrading. There are also several equipment boosts you can earn in game or buy from the EA store.

That other team I joined was full of a bunch of selfish forwards who like to lose games but get a goal.
I would like back on the fata's, please. It sounds like you guys are playing more now.
