(East) Indian food is much thinner in the ground in the US, even in most urban areas. They usually call butter chicken "chicken makhani" and it's not on every menu.

It's much, much, much easier to get a shawarma here. Same applies to Middle Eastern food in general here; outside of obvious exception like Dearborn Michigan, Middle Eastern is a special night out sort of thing. Table service and entertainment, much higher prices, etc.

Banh mi are way more routinized and "normal" here; you don't have to go to the Vietnamese part of town (if one exists) to find a good banh mi here.

Even in cities with a relatively small West Indian population like Calgary, it is much, much easier to find things like jerk or brown stew chicken or roti in Canadian cities. Chicago is a metro of nearly 10 million and it has not one single Trinidadian place. "Caribbean" is either Spanish Caribbean (Puerto Rican or Cuban), or it's watered-down Key West crap. Conch fritters, that sort of thing.

Oh- shreddies and weetabix.
I live in NYC, so thankfully we have every single one of those things, althought there's an inexplicable lack of pho in midtown east.

Just to clarify, I know that we have Aero Bars (had one the other day), Smarties (the real ones that look like M&Ms, just taste better), and ginger beef (assuming we are talking about an entree at a chinese restaurant).

Those are disgusting. Ugh, how can you eat those, it's like sticks of overly salted fake powdery cheese.

You could try looking in Costco. I've seen them there.

You are flat out wrong. Cheezies are the greatest snack food ever conceived by man.

Cheezies dipped in Slurpee prove the universe is ultimately benign.

I wish I could remember the jerky that my mother in law brings me from Calgary. She has to go out to the guys lil store/ranch and buy it. I believe its out east of town and it recently caught on fire. Its one of the best jerkys I have ever had!
Most American Beef is Corn Fed. While it can be nicely marbled it has a funny flavour to it and is more mushy. Though I think it cooks to well done better then Canadian beef. Though if you are ordering a steak well done you shouldn't be eating beef.

There is something about ripple cut that just makes a chip taste better, isn't there?

It increases the surface area therefore increase the amount of salt relative to the volume of potato. It also increases strength of the chips giving them a more satisfying crunch.

I also find it thicker. So there's a stronger potato taste.

You don't have Halifax style donairs with sweet sauce. I was also talking about the general availability of things, not whether they existed per se.

I think in a city like NYC, you can probably find anything at any time. There is probably nothing that is literally unavailable in the U.S., but just a few things that are rare or hard to find for most people. It's not like it was 20 years ago.

Halifax style donairs? Wouldn't expect to find those outside of Halifax actually, and we definitely have donairs with sweet sauce.

Exactly, you have communities of people from everywhere setting up shop, so you can pretty much find anything outside of very specific local things.

I LOVE Cheezies, but the massive amount of trans-fat in them means I don't eat them anymore.
