A little deductive reasoning via narration like a classic Sherlock Holmes novel would work IMO. He was constantly making deductions based on observations he could make with his own senses. In real life, sniffer dogs would also be employed to follow a trail like they do in the demo. That would also work.
And if Zahtzee thinks that this game will make people like QTEs, so be it, I was going mad playing the game. He's also made a couple of really good adventure games, probably my favorites in the past couple of years.

I guess a dog would work at the crime scene. But what about the footprints/tire tracks/blood dna? Might as well get the plot moving and analyze them at the scene instead of waiting for a lab geek to work it out. So really, they had no choice other than the CSI specs.
I will definitely look into these games. Point & Click games were my favorite growing up(partly because that's all my computer could handle!). However once the internet picked up speed and it became too easy and too tempting to look at quick solutions via online faqs my interest declined.
And it wasn't Zahtzee in that link, just another editor at that site.
Also some neat demo tidbits:
-when questioning about her son you can pick up his photo. This causes her to cry. You can then pick up a tissue and offer it to her. If you try to put your hand on her shoulder she shouts at you.
-if you wait too long outside while her ex-client is hurting her in the room, when you enter she'll have a bruised face. I'm pretty sure physical injuries like this carries over throughout the game.

This review/thing from Adam Sessler really makes me want to try it out. He says it's one of the most stressful and innovative games he's ever played:

Just played the demo. LOVED IT. I'm a big fan of both strong story in games as well as innovation, and this seems to have both. Hearing the impressions from those that have finished it is also a big plus for me. Listening to the latest IGN PS3 podcast had me giddy. Some of them have played it multiple times just to see the different endings. I did that for infamous and I never do that normally.
My wife takes the kid on a visit to her parets place next week so I'm going go try and hammer through it.

except that Infamous was such a cop-out with the good/bad endings, they were virtually identical. the "choices" in the game were also fluff, the same thing happens regardless of what you choose to do. compared to a game like Mass Effect, where your choices determine who lives or who dies and how people around the galaxy view you, it was very hollow. everything i'm hearing through from Heavy Rain in this regard is promising though, with vastly different game experiences depending on your choices. i'm staying away from any previews or even the demo though, i want to go into it knowing almost nothing about the story

Agreed. Infamous had a wonderful idea, but IMO it didn't play out very well. It was silly how many "ask the man to move or murder him" choices there were. I did play it twice through, but it was mainly because I liked how different the attacks were.
I also like your strategy of avoiding things. The demo didn't give too much away (just the main idea of the story). I got 25% through the trailer and turned it off because I didn't want to know anymore.

I picked it up this morning, only about 20 minutes in but it's engaging. You get right into the story even doing the most mundane things. I also like how everything you do you basically control it and the outcome is different. Seems like you can play it a hundred different ways already and I'm barely into it at all.
Like sword fighting with the kid outside, took it all easy on him, he's laughing away. Then I just hauled off and smoked him across the head with it - pretty hilarious. Not the best Dad move but it was worth the laugh.

Just got it and installing it now. Pretty neat, it comes with a piece of paper and shows how to fold it into origami during the installation.

I think I botched mine pretty good starting with the wrong side up, came out right but I think everything is on the inside that's supposed to be on the outside. So I'm hoping it's not vital to the game itself.

I wish this game was on Xbox. So sick of space/alien and shooting games. Maybe I'm just getting older, but outside GTA 4, all the major titles I've tried seem really uninteresting and have the same old themes that games have always had. How many games involving aliens do we need?

I can't play till sunday at 11am. I'm also so spoiler sensitive that I won't be returning to this thread until I finish the game. Have a good time everyone!

Remember that those that pre-ordered should get some sort of code for the DLC that's coming out in a few weeks. Free if you pre-ordered otherwise $4.99 I believe.

I was getting angry with the controls of dialog options at times or actions until I figured out when its hard to see or shaky, they're mimicking the emotion or duress of the person trying to act the way they want under the circumstance.
Very clever actually. Loving how it's not just another run and gun shooter but one that is an actual story and real to life in a sense. Have to think about everything you're doing and watch everything. Great game.

For those who don't like the "Sony thinks we're stupid and shallow" cover and want a better one, here you go:

Sony provided a better one you can download and print out.

Started off kind of slow, but has really pulled me into the story. Some really awesome and intense moments:
Sleepless night was really intense, I was having a hard time doing it cause it was so creepy.
