I have 3 PM's already RE: Tavaras. 2 GM's gave me the "who do you want" and 1 GM offered up a stud player right away.

If you want Tavaras, please start the negotiation by offering up a star player. That is a good start, I don't want to have to go looking for that certain player.

Tavaras traded to Carolina.

Using words of wisdom of Grant, I traded for a guy who's value is low right now.

Thomas Vanek is returning to Columbus! I have always been a fan of Mr. Vanek and welcome him back with open arms. Not to mention when he was here last, he had great chemistry with Savard and Holmstrom.

Jackets are 6 points out of the 8th playoff spot but with 3 games in hand it is still possible! Tavaras was not going to help us get there, Vanek will.

I like this deal for both sides. Tavares is gonna be a star. Vanek is a great sniper, he is having an off year this year but I am sure that he will help teh Jackets make a push for the playoffs.

From the point you had Thornton and Semin. This is what the trade breaks down as

Thornton
Semin
Allen

for

Prospal
Glencross
Clowe
Pronger
Vanek
Stastny (Prospect)

I would say
Thornton = Vanek + Clowe + Glencross
Semin = Pronger + Stastny
Allen = Prospal

So imo you're even after those trades but you do have the added depth that can help you now. That is what you're after so it makes sense.

I like this move more for Carolina...Tavares is a stud and his contract will be huge in a few years. Vanek has struggled but is good in the SIM and the Jackets get a guy who is highly rated now which is important.
