But his show is hilarious, despite what the herd says.
not really, his bits seem forced and lame and he's just not a very good interviewer. the one great thing he does however is his Neil Young impression, the two bits he's done so far on the Fresh Prince and pants on the floor were awesome. if he can somehow find a way to channel that kind of awesome and inject it into a talk show, it would be great
Man, I was a little choked up watching the last show tonight. His montage in the beginning really showed all the different things he tried to do on the show. So it's finally over. I really really hope Conan ends up somewhere, as I've basically followed the guy from Late Night to the Tonight Show. The guy's awesome and it'd be a waste if he didn't do another show.
The first four episodes this week were better, but Conans speech was awesome, spoken from the heart and directed at the fans. It was great.

Am I the only one who doesn't get why Jay Leno is being portrayed as the villain in this debacle?
Sure Jay wants his spot back, but late night tv is a vicious game where only a few spots are up for grabs. The only two networks with real late night talkshows are NBC, and CBS. There is no way Jay would take over for Letterman, so this was his only option.
Sure Jay could of retired, or found different work, but there is huge money (and respect) involved in this situation, and Jay didn't want to just fade into obscurity. Is it his fault that NBC's plan failed misserably in this situation? Is it Jay's fault that many of his fans stopped watching once Conan took his spot?
Sure you can put a lot the blame on NBC, but Conan just wasn't going to work (at least on NBC). The Tonight Show has always been geared towards a different audience then The Late Night Show, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report. The older audience that watched when Jay Leno's show was never going to follow Conan, so they started watching Letterman, which was a huge mistake on NBC's part.
Not sure how you can say turning the clock back is a mistake when NBC has lost hundreds of millions of dollars in the past seven months alone. Time will tell if the audience comes back, but NBC couldn't stand by as people left in droves to watch Letterman over Conan.
As for my take on Leno/Conan. I find both to be great at certain things. Conan is the much better comedian/writer there is no question there. But, I always found Jay to be the better host, and Jay actually found his guests interesting. Whenever I watched Conan I usually turned the channel once the monologue was finished. You could usally tell the rest was just filler material. I actually find Conan overratted at times to. Some people (my brother for one) act like Conan is God's gift to Late Night Television. But, in my opinion both Jon Stewart and Colbert are much funnier than Conan, and Jay is a better host/interviewer.
Maybe Conan will be better being less restricted on Fox, or HBO. I did love the era when he wrote for Saturday Night Live. I also loved his work on the Simpsons, so there is no question Conan is very creative.
One other thing though, Letterman and all the comics trashing Leno should just go away. Just because Jay isn't all buddy, buddy with the community, and isn't your standard comedian doesn't mean he should not belong. Jay has never done anything wrong, he is just very good at politicing, and knows how to treat people in the know, and his core (older) audience. That is why Jay won the ratings battle over Letterman for over a decade.

^^^ Leno could have cemented his legacy as one of the classiest guys in Hollywood by refusing to take back the tonight show. The true story doesn't really matter, as his reputation has been tarnished in the viewers eyes. Its not like he needs the money, and I'm sure he would be able to resume his stand up career etc... I think he will be remembered by this debacle for a long time.
Conan's just going to get beat if he goes on FOX. The Conan bandwagoners will go away after a few months and his ratings will be nothing special. Frankly, nothing has baffled me more than the massive outpouring for Conan... where the hell were all of you a month or 2 back when his ratings were in the toilet? What a joke.
Anyway... another option for him is to take over from Letterman since he's out in 2012 I think it is. CBS is a more stable bet for anyone that at all pays attention to TV ratings.

Not a bad last show. He made an effort to speak of the good times with the network and made zero comments towards Zucker or Leno.
If this was a year from now, with a different comedian taking over, and it was handled more appropriately by NBC, there would not have been a massive outpouring.
NBC did not give Conan the same courtesy that previous hosts had to build the show. Then they decided to move Jay back to cover their own mistakes. And the topper was Jay actually agreeing to all this. Combine that with details being released online all the time and ther other late night shows taking jabs, it became even larger.
I admit I wasn't watching from month 2-7. It just wasn't the same quality as Late Night. And I don't think he ever would have had the same ratings as Leno. Hopefully NBC does a better job in 5 years when Leno retires and doesn't screw someone else over

The fact of the matter is that Leno never should of been replaced in the first place. Jay is only 59, while Carson hosted until his mid 60's, and Letterman will more than likely do the same. Sure NBC was forced to deal with Conan, but maybe he should of waited until Jay lasted a few more years.

This all transpired because NBC was greedy. They tried to keep Conan from defecting in '04 by promising him the Tonight Show in '09; they tried to save money and keep Leno from defecting in '09 by shifting Leno to 10; and when the new configuration wasn't successful, in no small part because Leno at 10 was the biggest bust of all and pissed off the affiliates, they tried to keep everyone by cramming them all into late night.
