CityTV Axes 60 People
Wow, Kind of shocking. Very Sudden.
I was surprised to hear they let go of Aisling Slattery from BT, I thought she was quite good and kind hot too.
Rogers Media laid off numerous staff at Citytv stations across Canada
today in a bid to 'restructure' its television operations.
About 60 jobs were axed after the company decided to cut City News at Six and City News from the Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver schedules. Only Toronto will retain the two programs.
Rogers spokesperson Koreen Ott said she could not comment on specific personnel changes at the Calgary station, but she did confirm News @ Noon, The City Show and Your City, hosted by veteran journalist Sandra Jansen, have been cancelled.
In Calgary, the only on-air personality who confirmed leaving Citytv is Aisling Slattery, news anchor for Breakfast Television and News @ Noon.
Rogers said in a statement it will continue to produce Breakfast Television and CityLine for all five its markets.
"Today's changes, although difficult, are necessary to align our operations with the economic and regulatory realities of our industry," said Rogers Media Television CEO Leslie Sole in the press release. “We are improving our core business by tightening our operations and concentrating on the strengths of our top performing local programs."

What should be the news is a repeat of CityLine. Very sad to hear about the cuts. I don't think Rogers' ownership and management of CityTV has gone well since day 1.
Aisling will end up somewhere else on TV. I will miss her on BT, though.

My sympathies for Aisling however I think she was terrible on that show. Don't care if she was cute, she was Fran Drescher annoying with that cackle, awkward at carrying interviews, and stumbled often on the news reports. Unless I just watched on the bad days.

Did Dave Kelly know this was coming when he left?

I wondered the same thing. Kelly only left 2 weeks ago.

She'll end up on either Global or CBC IMO.

I think she'd improved a lot - it's the sort of job where you need some experience to get comfortable, and she wasn't really doing the news full time until a couple of years ago. Suzanne Fox was pretty awful when she started too, but got better with time. Dave Kelly leaving is the one that really hurts the show - but it's still the only decent local morning news IMO.

They should have dumped Andy. He's horrible as Suzanne's sidekick/Dave replacement and only marginal at the weather. Sad to see Aisling go, hope she bounces back quickly.
From what I've read it didn't sound like Dave knew something was up, he just planned on leaving while the job was still fun. He did it for over 10 years, seems like the right time to move plus I understand his production company he runs with his brother is doing well. There's a Herald article about it somewhere.

My guess would be CBC.
Have you ever watched the Global morning news on a regular basis?
That morning crew, except for maybe Bruce, are always commenting on the very company they work for, in such a bizzare and insulting manor, very weird and bitter sounding at times.
I don't think Aisling would want to join that bunch even if they offered.

Actually she could end up with a fairly large role in CTV, I'm guessing Darryl Janz will be retiring soon and a anchor spot could open for Aisling.
Must have been terrible for her yesterday, hey great morning show but..... your fired.

Not rying to make fun of your thoughts, But I've been thinking the same thing about Janz for the last 10 years!........Infact, I don't know how he's held on this long, The guy gets more Amphibious looking with each passing year! .....That being said, he does a great job and I've always liked Darryl.

No kidding! She said she had no idea it was coming. Talk about a crappy Monday.

If he the same in "real life" as he seems to be on TV? He comes across as he's trying too hard on TV and it's not really himself.
So this morning Mike Yawney was doing the news...let's just say he's a better news reporter than news anchor.

Well, this was junior high, so he was a total jackass with a huge gut for a 15 year old.

Dave Kelly left!?! Thats too bad. Hopefully he's still connected with the Calgary media scene. Definitely one of my favorite Calgary personalities. Whenever I visit Calgary, I always try to catch BT in the morning just to kinda relive my old morning routines.
