I think they could do a dark Spiderman film if they had Venom as the main guy. That'd be sick.

the fact that a reboot lets them make Venom an actual bad guy is good
the whole storyline they concocted with Venom and topher grace playing him was just a terrible decision
if rebooting the series means they do venom right I am all for it

IGN had some interesting choices for Spiderman including Gordon Joseph-Levitt and Anton Yelchin

Personally I think Levitt is a great actor, but too old. Yelchin on the other hand I think would be perfect

Sam Raimi sucks at life.
All Spiderman films sucked the fabled Oiler testes.

^ I find that curious.
I mean, that sort of vitriol i can understand being reserved for a Michael Bay, or Tony Scott, but Raimi?
Not an Evil Dead/Army of Darkness fan? (there must be a few; more than a few potentially). Or just a general dislike of what he brings? Maybe he killed Spidey for you? (can appreciate that i guess, didn't mind the films personally, but don't find Spidey all that interesting to begin with).

I agree. What's with the sudden Raimi hate? People loved him before.
I will say though that he's an idiot for directing Terry Goodkind's TV show based on his horrendous hack-job of a book series. Clearly money talks. And whatever else Goodkind does to get this junk done for him.

Bah screw it way off topic
Basically, they can't do Spiderman in the same fashion as The Dark Knight. Batman from the comics has more in common with Spiderman than Christian Bale's version of Batman. The dark aspect will not work with a Spiderman character, only with his -some- of his enemies.

I dunno, spider-man can be pretty damn dark at times. Do a movie with him black suited (original not symbiot) and have a Kraven the hunter story.

They are talking about making this reboot focus more on his high school days and origins.
Peter Parker with a dark theme in high school gets you this:
Pete has always been an up beat kid, he has been about rising above lifes challenges. Sure he has his lapses, everyone does, but as a theme I think it would be destined to fail.
Every comic book movie needs some kind of dark sinister side, of course, but not to the extent that TDK went for Spiderman.

I dunno, spider-man has always been rather up-beat but his life has always been marred by tragedy.

And therein lies Spider-Man's strength - no matter how low he gets knocked down, he gets back up - well except for "Brand New Day" but that's another story.
And I was thinking that the Kraven storyline could be quite dark but I can't really see it being transferred to film successfully. I still think a reboot story of Spider-Man in high school and meeting / falling for Gwen Stacy and then losing her would be a good way to start over.

They need to keep the Villians down to just one.. not 2-3.. Spiderman 3 had the goblin 2, Sandman and then Venom. stick with one not this team up thing.
The old Batman movies did this to and it ruined them all. Maybe take the movie to develop the main villian as well as Spiderman.
would be cool to see the Lizard, or Mysterio as the main character.. Kraven the Hunter could also be done very well.

Why does everyone care about Venom so much? He's one of Spiderman's worst enemies. So boring and stupid.
Lizard and Kraven would translate well to the celluloid. Venom's already been done. It was actually a pretty accurate depiction of him in Spiderman 3. It was also horrible because the character is awful.

I would assume/hope this is the route they would go. I also hope they avoid this multiple bad guys trap that every Superhero movie falls into.
You don't need an ever escalating enemy count, you just need a good story.

Forgive me if I'm wrong (I don't really follow the comics that closely), but it strikes me that Venom would have been done more justice over the course of two films or so instead of one. It's difficult to have Spidey really get a feel for the suit and have it start to bond with him, then have him realize what's happening, get rid of the suit, have it find Eddie, and then the suit and Eddie going after Spidey....all in 2 hours.
What would have been great is have Pete find the symbiote, say, midway through Spider-Man 2, and have it help him defeat Doc and then maybe have Pete question himself but decide to keep it, and then that way you have all of 3 to deal with Spidey/the suit and then Venom/Eddie.
I agree with an above poster that the Spider-Man movies were getting to be a little like the 90's Batman films, with just a random villain (or villains) from Spidey's rogues gallery in each movie instead of focusing on the main character and then picking one or two villains/themes to focus on. The new Batman had at least a little continuity from Batman Begins to TDK with the Joker card at the end. I think a little foresight on the part of the creative team would have gone a long way to making what were some really good comic book/action movies possibly great.

I hate cast changes. Even when I don't particularly enjoy an actor, it still makes it hard to see the role done by someone else.

Disney owns Marvel, right?
And even though Sony has the rights to Spiderman movies, Marvel still has creative control, right?
They want to spend more time in High School?
Clearly this all adds up to this guy playing Parker:

you know as much as we all hate on him for High School musical and what not, Efron actually has some acting chops and would probably do alright as Spiderman. The problem is everyone would write him off before even seeing it and it would bomb.
