Fastest way to NW from SE?
Would it be faster to use the ring road from the SE (130th area) to go to Crowfoot YMCA than taking Glenmore - Sarcee - 16th ave to Stoney Trail?
I tried google but the ring road isnt in there yet understandably
I know the ring road is faster to northeast sportsplex than deerfoot is from my area but not sure about going to the NW
I ask more for the drive home so I can get to bed earlier tonight, god do I love 11:30 hockey games on a Tuesday night

I'd go deerfoot, but that's because I've never used the ringroad.

I would take this route, since you're deep in the SE. Taking the ring road would almost be like a full circle.

It didn't even occur to me to use the NE ring road- I thought you were talking about the SE/SW ring road and trying to be funny.
At 11:30 at night the Glenmore Sarcee route will be the quickest. I use that most of the time going from Copperfield to Tuscany.

I've gone both routes at that time of day. Going Deerfoot to Stony Trail ring road will get you home at 110 km/hr pretty quick. Going Glenmore to Sarcee to 16th will get you home at 70 km / hr. It's pretty much the same time travel at that time of night with no traffic, but the ring road way you have no lights and can cruise the whole way.

None of those.
Deerfoot/Glenmore/Crowchild/Nose Hill is 100% the fastest route (outside of rush hour).
Many navigation systems prefer 16th ave because it's a 'highway' and Crowchild isn't listed as one.
Not only does Crowchild run NW/SE for a good stretch cutting down the distance, it's also freeflowing and 80km/h compared to 50km/h and full of lights (16th).

I live in New Brighton and one day the wife and I needed to take two vehicles to Market Mall - she went Deerfoot - I went Glenmore/Crowchild and wound up waiting for her for about 15 minutes at the mall.
Given the time of night it probably won't matter which way you go as traffic should be light - although there is nothing better than being stuck in a late night traffic jam.

If you are driving from the deep South to the deep North West the quickest route by far is Glenmore / Sarcee.
Ring road is of no use as it currently ends at 17th Ave.

actually now that i think about it thats they way I think I usually take. I was talking about getting on 16th ave at sunnyside where there is hardly any lights. But Crowchild is the best way for sure, thanks for reminding me!

I agree - I live in Cranston and this is easily the fastest route I take to get to the NW soccer centre.

I live in Sundance & drive to the soccer centre all of the time, and I would only take Anderson to 14th to Glenmore to Sarcee.
This route is much quicker as Deerfoot is very rarely smooth flowing.
Especially during the times when I take my kid to Soccer.

This route is further in distance, has more traffic lights to go through, and has no roads that have a higher speed limit than the Glenmore/Crowchild route. It simply can't be faster, unless there is a lot of traffic congestion on one vs the other.

My kids play lots of sports which causes us to travel the City allot. Other parents have left at similiar times (From Sundance) and took Deerfoot, they arrived much later at the Hockey Arena's or Soccer Centre's.
Problem with Deerfoot is, when is it not rush hour. Especially if a person is traveling to the North for Hockey or Soccer.
Sorry I am comparing the route to Deerfoot. Glenmore / Crowchild is a good route but it depends on the end location.
For example if I am travelling to the NW Soccer Centre I would take Sarcee.

Well, the section of Deerfoot you drive for each route is exactly the same. The difference is taking Sarcee vs Crowchild. Google maps says the Crowchild route is 4 kms shorter and 9 minutes faster than the Sarcee route. (From 130th Ave SE to Crowfoot)
