The sequels may not ruin the movie if they are comparable to it; albeit, it is highly unlikely

Sherlock Holmes was better... Avatar was way too long. Didnt blow me a way like Terminator 2 did when it came out.

Avatar has great special effects, but the story is not that special. It is like Dances with Wolves in space - except the good guys won. I'd even argue that Dances with Wolves was a better story because there was some historical truth to what they were doing.

Sherlock Holmes was a movie that tried way too hard to be everything. It was a movie that could not decide at any point if Holmes was a forensic expert or an action hero. I liked it, but its story wasn't nearly as good as Avatar's, and that is with noting that Avatar had absolutely nothing groundbreaking from a storytelling perspective.

Thank God I double read your post. I had some sleep in my eye and thought you said Transformers 2 blew you away.

I enjoyed Sherlock Holmes 17 times more then I did Avatar. The story was better, no nauseating 3D, Rachael McAdams... Very entertaining movie.
The only thing I didn't like is that at the very end when he explains why Watson couldn't get a pulse. I mean I understand that the guy knows ALOT but now he knows about some plant in Turkey too? What did he Google it?
Still. I really liked it.

Sherlock Holmes is a dvd rental compared to Avatar, which I enjoyed 18 times more. Holmes was just a disappointment in my opinion.
I like Robert Downey Jr as much as the next guy but he didn't have it in him this time to elevate this mediocre piece of celluloid. Even if McAdams had a full frontal shower scene I'd be saving my money for when it hits cable.

You see I just flat out disagree. Avatar would've been something that I wish I would've waited and watched on Family Channel. Maybe... Only cause they don't have commercials.

It wasn't my stomach, it was my head. I can go on all the rollercoasters of Florida and California, go on all the spinny rides, but the stupid 3D movie drove me insane.
And this isn't my first 3D movie. I've seen a ton of them at amusement parks and never had an issue.
this is however the first 3D movie I saw in theaters.

BOX OFFICE UPDATE ***WARNING - LONG AND BORING POST AHEAD!***
Avatar is 2nd in the "Fastest movies to $450 million domestic". Came 2nd to The Dark Knight by 1 day. Avatar did it in 28 days, TDK in 27 days.
However, it is very likely that Avatar will be the fastest movie to $500 million as TDK took 44 days to get there and Titanic took 98 days (the only two movies that have currently made $500+ million domestic). On its current track, look for Avatar to hit $500 million domestic at about its 34-35 day mark, beating TDK by about 10 days.
Avatar looks as though it will secure a 5th straight weekend at #1 at the box office. The Book of Eli has had poor reviews and will likely not pose a threat to the continued excellent performance of Avatar. Currently Avatar is projected to make about $43.5 million this weekend (a 4-day weekend in the US), with The Book of Eli projected to pull in about $32.0 million.
Interestingly, Avatar MAY be able to stay atop the box office until its 9th weekend. After Legion next weekend, there does not appear to be a significant threat on the horizon until the Valentine's Day weekend when the creatively titled Valentine's Day comes out. This is especially true if Avatar can pull off a pattern similar to Titanic and plateau at about $25 million per weekend long term. Valentine's Day (the movie) is predicted to draw in about $37 million and it is highly unlikely that Avatar will be able to beat that in its 9th weekend.
The next movie predicted to have a big opening weekend is Alice in Wonderland on the weekend of March 5th ($73 million).
Finally, Avatar has now surpassed $1 billion internationally bringing its worldwide total to $1.45 billion.
Worldwide Avatar has its sights set firmly on Titanic's $1.84 billion unadjusted.
Domestically, Avatar is looking to hunt down and surpass TDK for 2nd place at $533 million.

Additionally, James Cameron has said there is about 40 minutes of usable footage that was not included in the theatrical version of Avatar. This includes both Na'Vi scenes and live action scenes. These scenes will be included in some form on the DVD/BD release.

Just curious... if you hate this movie so much, why do you continue to post here? Honest question.
I am glad it will get another BD sale though!
I have a feeling this movie will be unreal on BD... especially 3D BD with 3D TV.

BOX OFFICE UPDATE - *MUCH SHORTER THIS TIME*
Early estimates have been upped for Avatar from $43.5 million to $48.5 million. If Avatar somehow manages to get to $49.6 million this weekend it will break the $500 million mark.

Jesus, this movie was already 30 minutes too long. 40 minutes more would be eclipsing LOTR:RoTK, which is the only movie that can pull off being that long.
