Default Old Las Vegas Question

I am once again in need of the CP wealth of knowledge for an upcoming trip. My buddy is getting married in Vegas in May. Most of the guests are doing the traditional Thursday to Sunday trip. There are three couples (including us) going up one night early on the Wednesday.

We are discussing on what to do the first night. My wife would like to check out a Cirque de Solei show that night. The other two couples were talking about checking out Old Las Vegas.

Has anyone done the Old Las Vegas thing? Is it a blast? Better then Cirque de Solei?

What do you mean by 'Old Las Vegas'? Are you talking about Fremont Street?

When you say old Las Vegas? Are you meaning Downtown and the Glitter Gulch? If you do you can probably do both. Take in the Show then jump in a cab and hit Down town, there isnt really much to see apart from the Fairmont Street Experience Light show, can do some cheaper gambling in older casinos.
I would not pass up Cirque de Solei in order to spend the night down town.

Yeah, what exactly do you want to know? Downtown is fairly seedy, with the only nice hotel being the Golden Nugget. The light show is worth seeing, but that can be done in 30 mins. I go there to play poker, so downtown is fine by me, but if you are going with women, I would recommend the main strip (unless you are bringing women who have never been outside of Edmonton )...

Go see Jersey Boys. Best musical I have ever been to.

Please do not mix it up with Jersey Shore.

The only thing I would go back to the Old Strip for is the Star Trek Expreience; in the Hilton. (Assuming you are a geek like most of us.)

That could easily be done in a couple of hours while the wives are off shopping.

I seriously do not know what I mean when I say "Old Las Vegas". All I know is that my wife wants to go see a show and the other two couples want to go to Old Las Vegas

Just wondering which is the better and more fun option. If we can do both, that would be even better

Thanks again

The Hilton is not on the old strip - it's just off by itself...

Here's everything you need to see in old Vegas:

Old casinos, a less than impressive LCD screen covering the street (it was cool 10 years ago...), lots of neon signs, and an expensive cab ride/endless bus trip back to the strip.

If I were you, I'd skip it. Plenty to do around where you're staying (assuming that's on the strip)

And they closed the exhibit in 2008

I'm only staying on the strip the wednesday night. The rest of the nights we are at the Ritz Carlton, which I heard is a 45 minute ride.

The whole Wedding group is bussing to the strip on the Thursday though

Oh, Albert, forgot to add, as this might be of interest to you - Binions has a brand-new fancy poker room (well, 1 years old now) and the best poker comps in Vegas. Also, the Golden Nugget poker room is very nice, and the manager is great...

If you go see a show, the best by far is Le Reve. O and Ka were ok, but Le Reve was bloody impressive. Zumanity is garbage from what I hear.

I never thought I would confess to liking one of those shows, but after seeing it in the summer, I would definitely recommend it. The good thing about Le Reve is there aren't really any bad seats. Paid somewhere around 150 per (during peak season).

I'm pretty sure the Star Trek experience is closed now.

Jersey Boys or Ka would be great bets. Do something different and get Ka tickets in the first five rows.

The only thing that would make Old Las Vegas more fun than a Cirque show is if you were travelling back in time to see Old Las Vegas.

Ffffffkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!

OK, then when the girls are shopping, the guys head to the Spearmint Rhino. Just be sure to have time for a shower after to get the glitter off.

(And if somebody tells me that is closed then my head is going to explode!)

Cirque shows are usually pretty good...but the best show I saw in Vegas was the Blue Man Group, they are at the Venetian now. Highly recommend seeing them.

So far I am leaning towards not checking out Old Las Vegas at all after reading the posts in this thread

Is anyone going to try to convince me to check it out?

I'm getting....Cirque de Soleil>>>>>>>>>Old Las Vegas vibes from everyone

Fremont was pretty cool. They have the only casinos I seem to win money in. Its definitely worth checking out for a couple hours.
