You wanna see Lithgow play one evil motherf*****?

Check out this movie:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102789/

It features an effed up and violent prison escape sequence.

Let me clarify. I have seen Cliffhanger and knew he could play a bad guy but Trinity is different in my opinion. It's such a multi-faceted role that I was pleasantly surprised at how well Lithgow pulled it off.

Maybe it was the writing, but I will look at John Lithgow differently after his role as Trinity. He does an excellent job making you believe he's this psychopath that longs to be an innocent child playing trains in one scene. A church going, father and humanitarian that is unable to kill a wounded animal in another. The genuine excitement he portrays when he finally finds someone he can share the story of his sister with. The calm evilness when he's commiting his murders. The pure terror in his eyes when Dexter attacks him at Thanksgiving. Just so many great scenes.

In my opinion a performance like that deserves some awards and hope he wins.

Maybe I'm the only one who will miss Rita. Others found he annoying; I thought she was attractive and a value-oriented person. Having said that, that last scene was one of the best scenes I've ever seen on a TV show. Maybe second best next to how they ended the original Newhart show. It will be interesting to see how they carry her death over to the next season. I've wondered if they'll pick it up weeks or months later, by which time Dex will have the kids settled so we don't have to deal with him finding childcare for a couple of episodes.

[quote=flip;2205698]Based on the article I posted they are far beyond the dream thing. There is less than zero chance that it is a dream
i hope you're right..but why is dexter so sloppy and stupid right now? they need to bring the old dexter back..a dexter with feelings is not the dexter i love

Do you people not watch an hour of TV a day? That doesn't even seem like a lot. I think the NA average is more like 5 hours a day.
personally..no..i probably dont watch an hour each day..but i know that's not normal..the first 3 years i lived in calgary i probably watched 100 hours total of tv..i was once married to someone who never did anything but watch tv..so i kind of hated it for a long time! i do watch dexter faithfully though..i pvr it

I totally freaked out at the last scene, I think for next season they'll jump ahead in time where Harrison is a bit older (maybe 3 or 4) I still can't get over the final scene, man.

While previous seasons of Dexter always had me a bit uncomfortable with the suspense and the killings, this season absolutely freaked me out. Lithgow was brilliant - the epi where the mom is taken to the building and made to jump still gives me the willies - it seemed SO REAL. I was on the edge of my seat for all the episodes - and insisted many nights that we had to watch something "funny" afterwards just to not end the evening on such a freaky note.

Next year will be interesting to see where it goes. I agree with others that it probably only has a couple seasons left.

I actually hope they pick up where it left off. There was a lot of problems for Dexter that Rita's death will have caused ... his alibi is non-existant, he will show little remorse, Masuka saw Rita kissing the neighbour and told him about it, they were in therapy ... all sorts of signs point to Dexter doing this.

On the other hand you make a good point, if the timeframe rolls forward you can start to develop more of a Harry/Dexter relationship between Dexter and his son.

Personally I'd go the "Dexter as the possible killer being hounded by Quinn" angle. Sure it's a little bit like Dokes in season 2, but I'm sure they could work with it.

Great Season Finale.......But NOT a "CliffHanger" IMHO.

That interview I posted with Julie Benz (Rita) was a bit misleading except for the fact that the episode was indeed shocking.

I might attribute that Benz interview to the fact that, as soon as I heard Harrison crying I knew Rita was dead, But that interview was definitely not a spoiler and it didn't make seeing Rita in a "Blood Bath" any less shocking.

I expressed a bit of anger in that (Benz Interview) post because she said there would be a massive CliffHanger. Maybe she's not very articulate, I don't know, But that ending, in my mind aint no CliffHanger and I'm very, very happy about that. I was expecting something that would make the 9 month wait absolutely excruciating. waiting for season 5 will be no different than it was waiting for S4, I will just look very forward to it.

I can't say enough about the writing, Acting, Directing of this show. By far the best thing on the tube hands down. BTW..Hemi, "Rescue Me" is an awesome show and a close second to Dexter in my books.

I Really don't give a crap about any of these awards, but I think the Actors do.....
Also, I'm not sure what weight the "Golden Globe" awards hold in terms of television, (I know they are supposed to be a great predictor for the Oscars) But Lithgow and M.C. Hall have both been nominated for a Globe. I really hope this leads to Lithgow getting himself another Emmy. He's already got 4, 3 of those were for "3rd Rock from the Sun".

2010 Golden globe Nominations Dexter:

Best Television Series - Drama
Dexter

Best performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama
Michael C. Hall - Dexter

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role
John Lithgow - Dexter

I can see Quinn getting on Dexter for that, but his alibi would probably be the message Rita left on the voice mail. I think Dexter might be in more trouble for the stuff with Trinity.

Wow, what an ending! Lithgow was phenominal all season, and overall this season ranks right up there with season 2 for best of the series.

I still don't understand the comment by Rita's Mother about ''good luck on the third.'' Didn't she mean third marriage, why was it never discussed all season? It's unlike Dexter to just ignore or forget little details like this, so they clearly didn't merely forget. Doesn't make any sense to me though.

As much as I wanna see the show and Michael C Hall win, I think it's gonna be hard seeing as how bloody good Mad Men was this past season. And Jon Hamm had some of the strongest scenes that the show has seen this season. Mad Men will clean up for the third straight year.

Lithgow will win in a slam dunk in his category though.

Season 2 was ok but nothing compared with Season 1 or Season 4.

I go Season 2, then 4, then 1 then season 3.

1, 2, 4 I can interchange on any given day, but 3 was awful by comparison....IMO of course.

Completely agree. 2,4,1,3. Although 2 and 4 are so close. 3 sucked unfortunately.

2,4,1,3 for me

although i didn't think season 3 sucked, thought it was still a great show, just not as good as other seasons

i loved season 2, especially when dexter first saw "the bay harbor butcher" on TV

4 was the best season by far. Season 1 was amazing but we were just getting to know dexter so the writers had a lot to work with. Season 3 was stale and it seemed the writers were running out of ideas. Then season 4 game out and just blew me away. I would rank them 4,1,2,3.

I would have to say that season 4 was possibly the best season of TV i have ever watched.

I would prefer if they time jump at least a few months ahead so we don't have to deal with the awkwardness of explaining every detail of Rita's death. Explaining a story after it happened doesn't make for good writing. I would be okay with Quinn only suspecting Dexter but I don't think they are going to go that route as Deb is going to finally hook up with Quinn next season.

I could see Quinn's past being a minor theme and you would have a lot of options with him being a crooked cop compared to Harry being a crooked cop and all of Debs Daddy issues combined with the Harry/Dexter Dexter/Harrison dynamic.
