Default Fixing an ipod

I have 2 ipods. One 60g and one 80g both have basically stopped working because of what I can only assume is damage to the HD.

Any place in Calgary that'll tell me how much they cost to fix? Or at least tell me what is wrong?

One won't work at all (other than a screen pops up that says apple.com/support or whatever) and the other functions just fine but won't sync more than 5 gigs (out of 80gigs) and then itunes says I have an error and won't load anymore than that.

I would be willing to fix one or both if it cost less than $100 each to fix. Problem is I want to know how much they'll cost to fix before I get them fixed because if it is more than $50-100 each to fix it won't be worth it and I'll just buy a new one.

It is not the battery in either one.

Thanks in advance.

The 1.8" hard drives are pricy - google ipod replacement hard drive. Probably you could find the same model drive for less by googling around for the model number, i'm willing to bet that people selling them as replacement "ipod drives" are marking them up a little - but you are still looking at around $100 US.

If you put the iPod into hard drive access mode in iTunes, and format the drive (FAT32 on PC, HFS+ on Mac), does it format cleanly? That would be your first and best means of determining if the drive is shot.

Not sure what you're talking about here.

My 80g is fully functional but won't hold more than 5g's. The 60g won't even turn on at all and just gives me the sad face and says apple.com/support.

I've restored the 80g ipod since it stopped working properly but that didn't help.

I already know that it works, but it won't hold more than 5 gigs and if I try and sync more than 5 gigs I get an error message.

I don't know anyone in town who'll service your iPod, other than the Apple store, but if you want to try it yourself I suggest ifixit.com.
