Where's your extension cords - plug in tonight..
Low of -27 this evening, might be a good time to look for those extension cords and make sure they haven't mysteriously disappeared.

^I got Optima Red-Tops for $240 and Yellow-Tops for $280. Would definately be a good present for your Legacy for Xmas!

If anybody needs an extension cord, I picked up an extra one last year, or maybe it was two years ago now, I can't remember. I've got so many of them now.

Outdoor parking, with no cover. It's awesome. Just getting to my car today was about 2 feet of snow, tried to wipe it all off, pretty much impossible. A good inch of ice on all my windows, took me close to an hour to just get the ice/snow off. Then I was all soaked so I had to change pants, socks and shoes. After that, trying to reverse out, I got stuck about 5-6 times...
I really need to move to a different apartment!!!

we had a little sleet down here and people were freaking out.
I tried to tell my boss about how much snow we had in iowa last year and she didn't want to hear it.

Dumb question, but what is the absolute minimum you should have your car plugged in before you start it? I have an 07 Mazda 3. I've been told that more than an hour is doing nothing extra but draining electricity from your home.

Realistically, I don't think the energy used is very much. If your block heater is 400 watts (smaller car), and you plug in overnight, say 10 hours, that's 4 kilowatts. Typical electricity rates are 0.08 per kilowatt, so if you plugged in every night of the month, that would cost you about 10 bucks. For a big block heater, 800 watts, you're looking at 20 bucks if you plugged in every night of the month.
According to Natural Resources Canada, a block heater can result in 10% fuel savings at -20 celsius ( http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/communities-g...rs.cfm?attr=28). So if your weekly fuel bill is $50, 10% in a month is $20.
So in addition to saving wear and tear from cold weather starts on the engine, you could actually come out ahead using a block heater financially on fuel consumption.

I've heard a couple of hours is all you need. The rest is wasted energy.
