Air Trans At

Taking them to Mexico on Friday. Anyone know if they have tv's on board or should I buy a book to keep me entertained?

I've never flew Trans At before and I'm a little leary. I usually stick to the big name carriers. Anyone have any feedback on them? Good or bad is welcomed.

I don't know about the in flight entertainment, but Air Transat (one word) is the largest charter airline in Canada and have been for a good number of years. They are about as big name as you can get in the charter world. I wouldn't be worried at all flying with them.

I love the complaints on that website, people buy the absolute cheapest tickets they can find and complain about the quality of service.

I flew from YEG about a year ago to Punta Cana on Transat. We flew on a huge airbus a330 and there was probably half a dozen TV's scattered around the plane. Depending on where you sit it might be hard to see or they will play a crap movie. I came prepared and brought my PSP n nano, glad I did. Overall I was really happy with the service and the staff was really nice.

I've taken them twice from Calgary to England. Not the most comfortable but its cheap and it gets you there. You don't have an individual TV but there are a few scattered around the plane and that play usually bad movies.

On my way home from England the second time I missed my flight and had to take Air Canada instead. Was pretty much the same quality if not worse.

Next time I go to Europe I'll probably use them again.

I think the same thing when a cheap airline or whatever goes bankrupt and they lose the money for the trip. You take your chances and sometimes you get burnt.

When we went last year, there were tv's but depending on where you sat, you may not get a good view. Download a couple of movies onto your Ipod just in case.

Am I really the only goof that actually looks out airplane windows? I mean, no matter how long the flight, all I like to do is look out. It's not easy either, I gotta bend half my body to actually get low enough to see anything. There's just something cool about looking at the ground from 35,000 feet moving at 500 mph. I can watch tv or movies at home.

It's not Lufthansa, that's for sure.

The seats are crammed in there, not a lot of legroom and not much for in-flight entertainment. But at the end of the day, it gets you where you want to go at a really good price.

I don't think they're too bad. I've flown them quite a few times, down to Cuba, over to England a couple times. They're pretty good. They may not be totally with the times and have a tv on every seat, but, their planes aren't crap like some of the planes i boarded IN europe (ryan air, easy jet). At least their service is good and the staff are nice. That's more than i can say for most of the AC staff (no offence if anyone here works for AC)
Definitely bring a book, or whatever keeps you entertained.

Yup. They hold the commercial airliner record for distance gliding with no fuel.

This was actually their poorest moment that contradicts what I said, but overall and certainly besides the Azores incident they are generally a well run airline from a safety standpoint.

Well, yes and no I guess. It was pretty shoddy groundwork that got them in trouble, but the pilots showed some pretty sharp flying skills to save the plane.

The cram factor has me a little worried. I'm a big man (6 foot 1 265 pounds). Is it any worse than Westjet? I don't have much problems with Westjet sizewise.

Yes, big mistakes by maintenence. Also very significant errors by the flight crew. Glad they did a miraculous job of flying to make it a safe and happy ending, but it would be incorrect not to find significant fault with the crews actions leading up to the heroic final bit of flying.
