The strange part of this is that I just don't see that they would send a psychiatrist into a battle situation. He would likely have been an office monkey treating soldiers on site, rather than back in Texas.
I've never under stood this. Nidal was a long time soldier he served 8 years previous as an enlisted man then in 2001 earned his degree and continued in the armed services. He re-upped after the start of the Iraq war, he wasn't a victim of stop loss, he could have just walked away.

According to reports he started posting fairly radical thoughts on the web supporting suicide bombers, he also argued against his deployment to Iraq.

This whole investigation is certainly going to change any privacy rules in terms of being a member of the armed forces. Its also going to force a change in recruiting rules as Nidal's actions and his behaviours do point to a radicalization of his beliefs over a short period of time.

I would expect that the U.S. Army, Marines, Airforce and Navy and those of similar countries are going to start looking harder into their soldiers backgrounds and beliefs as part of gaining any type of access or clearance.

At the end of the day radical islam might have achieved one of thier goals yesterday on the back of one crazed lunatic, they've got the army looking inwards at muslim soldiers.

Why would the military promote someone who does not want to be promoted? That should have been a red flag.

We don't know what his fitness reports are like Mikey, however I'm sure we'll be exposed to them in the days to come.

Remember that up until about 6 months ago it sounds like this guy was an outstanding soldier.

Here is a great piece in the Washington Post by Colbert I. King on Hasan.

Hasan's Worst Crime

Go to page 2 to get an excellent run down on this piece of work.

But even without a trial, some judgments can be made about him without fear of contradiction. That's certainly true for those of us who served in the armed forces.

Measure Maj. Hasan against the standards of the Army's Seven Core Values. Do that, and it becomes clear that, a jury's verdict notwithstanding, Hasan has failed on every score that matters most to those with whom he served.

These issues would all be so much simpler if the US wasn't such a Christian state. I think we'd be better off without any religion.

What would you rather live under? A christian state or a muslim state?

I'm not religious, but i'll take christian values any day over muslim values and islamic law.

I read Mark Steyn's America Alone. In it he argues when you have a state devoid of a religion, basically another religion is able to come into that and take over. I didn't really believe that was true at first, but now i'm thinking it is.

If you have a country of citizens that don't care about religion, that's fine. Then you accept immigrants with strong religious beliefs, as we do with many muslims, they integrate their beliefs into our societs. And when there is more and mor of them, they have more and more power.

We see this every day. Every day exceptions to the law are given to certain groups for religious reasons. Every day we hear issues about wearing turbins, wearing ceremonial daggers and other traditions. Canada was built on English traditions. It's laws fall under English common law, and I don't know about you, I like English Common Law a hell of a lot better than I like Islamic Law.

It does matter that this guy was a muslim. It does matter if he did it because of his religious beliefs. It does matter that there are so many Muslims in Canada and other countries. I'm sure we all feel that these people that move should somewhat assimilate into their host country. If I moved to the middle east, i'm sure some of the things I do would have to change in order to assimilate with their culture.

I don't think we ca Canadian take enough pride in our own culture. If you want to move here, learn the language, learn our traditions while keeping some of your own, and don't be a fanatic that kills people and blows people up in the name of religion.

You mean I couldn't move to Iran and build a jewish synagogue or catholic church? Blasphemy!!!

My opinion? (not that anyone cares)

Religion should be banned of the face of the earth for causing stupidity and cruelty.

This is one of those ironic statements.
