I think that's where the 80's show missed the mark- trying to hard to make it a parallel to what the Nazis did. That show targeted a younger audience who were born an entire generation after WWII.

I think that's what the show was. Alien Nazi's. Space is cool and Nazi's are evil. Mix the two together and you've got a hit.
I was too young when the show first aired, so I caught the miniseries years later and already knew the history kind of behind the series. The parallels were clear to me at the time.

A couple of scenes that really stood out from the original
The rat eating scene, Jane Bader with a dislocating jaw was hot
The appearance of the we are your friends posters.
The young collaborater who makes a mistake and ends up being taken to the kitchen
The first scene with the arrival of the visitors.
Things that I hope never show up in the new series
The whole star child crap
The easy way out spreading of a bacteria that killed the aliens.

I wasn't allowed to watch when I was a kid. It's the only show from my childhood that I remember really wanting to watch but not being allowed to. So I'll definitely give this a try.

Really? It wasn't that bad. Parents are weird though.
I wasn't allowed to watch Miami Vice or the A-Team. Actually, I wasn't even allowed to watch the GI Joe cartoon...lol.

I saw an ad for it in a Transit Bus Stop, with a Calgary backdrop.
Is it filmed here?

Filmed in Vancouver.
Maybe they were trying to imply Calgary was one of the 29 cities where the visitors show up? Or maybe they just put the background of any city where there are ads.

I'm hoping for the best but bracing for the worst.
It looks so much better than the 80's mini-series but it doesn't take much nowadays.
Either way I hope it does play out and it does get picked up for the proposed 5 season story arc.
Trying to be like a Lost/Battlestar Galactica mix.
Maybe I'm way off base but I don't care.
Besides with Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) in the show it can't be bad right?

According to wikipedia, the plan is to have it air in "pods" so maybe 4-6 episodes at a time. I believe this first run will go for four weeks, then it will come back in the spring. They want to make this "event" TV.
I, for one, hope this works. As much praise as cable gets for producing superior television, it's a lot easier to be creative for 6,8,10,12 episodes a season instead of 24. Perhaps, this will force networks to realize that more isn't always better. ABC saw the results with LOST, here's hoping it continues.
|
This was not by choice. Originally it was suppose to be a 2 hour pilot or 2 2 our pilots but the funding fell through with some or all of the VFX work. Shooting was off and on after that. So it was decided to break up the original pilot and stretch it out in hopes of getting new money.
It appears that they got it as they will start to shoot again in the new year. I think it wrapped last night or the night before.
From what I have seen so far it looks decent enough.

That's definitely it. The ads in Vancouver on the bus stops has a spaceship over downtown Vancouver. And I highly doubt 2 of the 29 cities with spaceships on them are Calgary and Vancouver; Canada is usually spared from Hollywood's alien annihilation plots anyways (or, at least ignored).
I have to say I just watched the second episode (I think)....All I can say is "meh."

Looking forward to this for sure.
If there are any "lost" fans out there you might want to note that Elizabeth Mitchell(AKA Dr. Juliet Burke) plays a main character in "V"...Might give you some insight into season 6.

Season 6 Lost spoiler in white:
The first episode entitled LA X will feature Juliet along with.....
this is a real spoiler...
I'm warning you...
Boone and Shannon.
V was meh. It was fairly obvious that it was supposed to be a two hour pilot. I was just getting into it and it ends.
I am looking forward to the next episode.

It was New York. They don't get earthquakes.
I never saw the original as I was 3 at the time but I have been reading up on it Something interesting from the original series via IMDB:
On 30 October 1982, Dominique Dunne, who had been signed to play the role of Robin Maxwell, was at her house with co-star David Packer going over lines for the next day's filming, when her boyfriend John Sweeny arrived unexpectedly and throttled Dunne into a coma. Five Days later, on 4 November 1982, Dunne died. Blair Tefkin was cast to replace Dunne as Robin and all of the scenes that had been shot with the late actress were re-filmed. According to the DVD commentary, however, Dunne is still visible from the back in one group scene that occurs as the Visitors arrive on earth.

You asked had anyone felt one. They live in New York so probably not hence the fear and confusion.
We all KNOW what a shark is and if we saw one swimming in the Bow river, we would probably be frightened and confused as well.
