Better than Marques Harris who was released or Tony Pashos who went on IR.
Diyral Briggs was also brought up from the practice roster.
I hope the offense picks it up because the defense had been holding their own but has taken a beating in the injury department lately.

Lots of Alex Smith talk recently. Has he finally turned the corner? Or is it just the hype from one game?

I think right now it's just hype from one game.
Guess we will know for sure in a couple of weeks, or even after this week's matchup with Indy.

Favourite person on a team is the backup QB.
The fact of the matter is he came into a game where the other team was up by 21 and they hadn't prepared for him; some in the Houston huddle didn't even know who he was. They played a really soft defense and Smith racked up the yards and surprised him on a few plays.
It is a good time for him to come in. He spent the off week hanging around working with Crabtree (and incidentally, so much for working him in; Crabtree played all but 6 snaps!). There is nothing like the pressure there was the last time Smith was the starter. He has had a good while to learn the offense from ANOTHER new OC. He is healthy. The run game hasn't done jack because teams are putting 8 or 9 in the box almost all the time since no one respects Shaun Hill's arm (and he hasn't done anything to make them respect it). Alex Smith's issues have been his short passes, but he does throw a nice deep ball. The hope is that he can force a few of those safeties to play a bit deeper and allow a few more yards in the ground game.
But the real issue is exactly what I have been carping about the past few years. The O-Line isn't good enough. Not good enough to open holes consistently, not good enough to pass block long enough for the routes to be run.
This looks like an 8-8 season to me. A really good run could bump it to 10-6. I can't see being worse than 7-9.
The saving grace is the 49ers have 2 1st rd picks next draft. One should go for a O-lineman, the other for an OLB that can get some sacks or at least consistent pressure. Don't sink too low Carolina - we don't want that pick to be too expensive. I could see the Niners trading a high pick down - lots of teams will have lots of need next draft.

LJ has been suspended for two weeks by the Chiefs. Of course LJ is appealing the suspension. If he does end up being suspended two weeks he will miss out on $500,000 in pay.

Wow, some of the matchups this week are tough to call......Baltimore or Denver, Minnesota or Green Bay, Phillidelphia or New York Giants, Miami or New York Jets, Detroit or St. Louis....

Well if you need something to help your decision, apparently the Giants are still really upset about this:
Bunch of babies...

Well for that game I think the game changes alot if the Giants get Kareen McKenzie back.
I just can't see Baltimore losing AGAIN....but Denver has been lights out.
I'm biased, but I like the Vikings....#@$ the Pack! (why did that get underlined and put in blue font??)
Miami just has New York's number and might be in their heads a bit. But who knows.
And that's like picking which STD to get....St. Louis and Detroit are garbage.

I hope the Rams win so they have the same record as the Chiefs. Then the boys at Arrowhead only have the Yuks in the way for the first overall pick.

I see that Aaron Rodgers is the first Packer QB to have 4 consecutive games with a QB rating of 110 or better since Bart Starr did it in 1966.

If they can somehow contain the Vikings D line, I like the Packers chances too. But if he gets sacked 7 or 8 times again, no chance. Should help being at home as Rodgers can adjust the count at the line of scrimmage as much as he likes. That and they have to be able to run the ball, which is getting easier to do against the Vikings.

I understand your hope there. I really believe the Lions are a LOT better than St Louis. I think they win easily and get their 2nd win of the season. That says more about St Louis than it does about Detroit because the Lions are AWFUL!

The other day on Sirius they posed the question of who would you take in a game of Tampa Bay vs. St.Louis if it was to happen? That is a tough pick to make, I think I'd go with the home team.
As I said the other night, this is a year where if you go 4-12...you could be picking 8th. Than again, with the amount you have to pay top picks, I'm not so sure you want too many of them in a row. The Rams are a good example...lots of high picks not doing much yet and a few busts in there. It's killing them with the amount of guaranteed money they're paying for sub-par performance.

The Raiders are a great example of that. I'm convinced it was easy for Al Davis to trade away his number 1 next year strictly because he's spent so much guaranteed money on top 10 picks:
Michael Huff (2006)
Robert Gallery (2004)
JaMarcus Russell (2007)
Darrin McFadden (2008)
Heyward-Bey (2009)
That's huge money since 2004. The only reason there's not more is the Randy Moss trade (7th overall down to 23rd overall) in 2005.

Based on where these guys were drafted in their respective years, I have labeled my thoughts on all of them.
The only one that MIGHT be salvageable is McFadden, but even then, that's pushing it.
