I know the guy who owned all the Arby's in Calgary at one point in the early 80s.

Did his last name rhyme with a rare gem? And did he have twin sons? Are we thinking of the same guy? He was our team sponsor, and I hated having the Arby's logo on my Hockey Jersey's as a kid though. It was sweet, all the Arby's we wanted in the summer. He would come home with a bag with like 12 Beef and Cheddars and just throw them on the table.

When all is said and done, it actually ends up costing like $5 or $6 (gravy and a drink aren't included in their meal).
The quirky name is an outright lie, but for some reason it makes me feel better when I'm buying it. I'm a sucker for greasy chicken, fries, and gravy.

Ah, Kentucky Duck. One bite of that stuff and you can feel your arteries hardening.
Apparently the return to the full "Kentucky Fried Chicken" name is only in the States. In Canada it's still KFC - or PFK if you're in Quebec.

Hey, what about that KFC buffet in Weyburn. That's fine dining there my friends.
I think you need to let PETA know about this thread, aren't they all anti-KFC (well, anti anything, really)

I'm not gonna lie, I love KFC... its a guilty pleasure of mine. However, I don't eat it very often. In fact the last time I had KFC was maybe July. However, this thread has given me a craving for it.

Kentucky Fried Chicken was originally marketed as a proprietary pressure cooking method (as well as a chicken recipe). Local or regional restaurant chains bought the technology (hardware). Hence you had a lot of places featuring it as a menu item. That all changed eventually, but initially Kentucky Fried Chicken wasn't a franchised restaurant concept in and of itself.

I think that Barney's Kentucky Fried Chicken may have been independently-owned shops using the KFC brand. The town I grew up in had one that was owned by two Japanese-Canadian brothers. When they eventually sold, certain things came off the menu (like hamburgers) and the menu was eventually standardized. Now, like most big chains, they offer someone (franchisee) the opportunity to buy-into or 'own' their own KFC establishment. Unfortunately as the franchisee you don't have complete control or ownership as KFC regional HQ has the ability to remove the owner from the establishment (ie buy out) if the restaurant is not up to KFC operating standards.

Edit: pretty much what "MQS" said

That's because they are owned by Yum Foods.

No mystery about it. KFC is the biggest fast food chain in all of China, and fried chicken is done well here. Besides, it's not really cheap food in China. Eating a meal at KFC is several times as expensive as I could eat for at a local Chinese spot. It's good quality, clean and well run.
