I know Bell advertises it has the "most HD in Canada", but I was looking at their channel lineup online, and it looks like they just have a lot of time-shifted and French channels. As far as channels I would actually watch, Shaw appears to be in the lead.

I don't see any channel on Bell's line-up that Shaw doesn't have that I would actually watch. The Score was pretty much the only one previously.

On the other hand, AMC-HD stands out as a big Shaw-only channel right now.

Shaw had National Geographic HD long before Bell did, as well as Showcase, I believe. They seem to get a certain exclusivity window with CanWest owned stations.

Since History is owned by CanWest, like NG and Showcase, I assume half their programming will be either upconverted SD, or worse, upconverted widescreen SD, so your picture floats in the middle of the screen with a big black border around it.

I never said Bell had it first or longer. I am saying maybe he was thinking NG was History.

Channels wise it is a coin flip on what you like to watch, quality Bell is must better. Shaw HD makes my eyes hurt!

Well they have it installed wrong. I live in Victoria where rain and wind seem to be a big factor and I have ZERO problems. I lived in Calgary and I hear it snows and thunder showers there too, ZERO problems.

Anyways just my opinion. I have a ton of friends with Shaw and when I go to their place to watch a game in HD it never seems to be as clear as when I'm at home.

To each its own. Some people only see what they want to see.

HAHAHAHA So why do I pay for HD when I could just watch SD and see what I want to see?

I don't see how you can compare the quality of the picture without having the same TV setup side by side with one showing bell and one showing shaw.

Why would I be bias? I nothing to gain by choosing Bell, Shaw or Starchoice over the other. I have had all three and Bell is by far a superior product IMO. If there was a better product out there I would have it but quality, programing, reliability, remote control, receiver features, etc, are all above the rest. Nothing more than my opinion.

Don't understand the picture quality debate as both are producing 720p for HD broadcasts.

Really? I think the Shaw PVR is a lot better that Bell. One button recording and "upcoming times" for a specific programs being on top of the list.
VOD is another one.
Then there is contracts and having to buy a recevier for each room.

But again, to each its own.
