Frig, they still won't ship it to Canada for some reason. If you live in Bolivia, or a gazillion other countries, you are in luck!

Looking at the specs, and everything, it would seem that Amazon would need a major price break from the local cellular oligarchy to make this work. (Like that would happen. Yay our existing GSM/CDMA overlords!)

Michael Geist guesses that Amazon doesn't have an agreement with a cell carrier.

I just can't read a book on one of those things, gotta actually have a real book. I wonder how many people feel the same, just something special about books.

Its a great gadget though.

Kindle is awesome, if you like having books you "purchased" deleted without your consent.

Real books FTW.

Edit: His blog isn't loading for me, so I can't read his piece... did you mean "...doesn't have an agreement with a cell carrier in Canada?"

I'd be all over something like this if I was still in school and could get textbooks on it. I like the idea of not holding a bunch of books in a room ... I realize some people like it but I'd rather have space. Spending weeks digitizing my dvd collection so I could pack up my dvd's was enjoyable to me. Freeing the 12 square feet in my basement was a great feeling.

I agree, this would be interesting with regards to textbooks for post secondary students, if it would help bring the cost down I say its genius but as for my fiction library if it isn't on paper it just seems weird.

I've got a Sony Reader with 200 plus books on it. Skeptical at first but I absolutely love it now and could not go back to a real book. We were getting overrun with the sheer number of books though so this was a huge space saving move too. I wouldn't bother with the Kindle in any case. It's completely ugly compared to the Reader.
