I played in the EII last summer (2008) played in the E the last 3 seasons including this year. The only tip I'd have with your reffing is don't be afraid to make a call I don't know how often I've had one Ref see a penalty and look at the other ref who was watching the puck and didn't see the infraction, and nothing gets called.

I played in EII during the summer on the centaurs, were in E North right now, but were not entirely sure if that will last.
We got blown out 16-3 in our first game, though I think that may have had a lot more to do with the fact that we played 75% of the game with no subs (so all things considered we didnt do too bad)
We did alright in our last game but still lost. There seems to be a little bit of concern in regards to the direction of the team as we have a stupidly high amount of turn over every year, so can never accurately gauge where we should start

Now, I'll agree that the play constituted an ejection, but he threw two extra in there just so he could go home. Worst part of the deal was that the ref never explained this. He ejected the player, walked back to the dressing room and locked himself in. No explantaion or anything.

NCHL is full of terrible refs who exploit the terrible rules so they don't have to stay late. Playing an 11:30 p.m. game in chestermere? You better believe your team will get some questionable calls in an attempt for the refs to go home early via the max penalty rule.

I exaggerate a bit, but it always seemed to happen.
No offense, but if you have even one game a season forfeited due to penalties in the NCHL you are doing something majorly wrong. I have been in the league for 3 years paying on 2 teams and have only had to forfeit once due to the 9 penalty rule. And I have done some pretty stupid stuff. I have been on the winning end of that a few times, and usually those teams do not last more than a season.

Don't get me wrong the NCHL isn't perfect, but they have been purging out the trouble maker refs the last couple years. This was even discussed in our GM meetings that as much as we have to play the game fair, the refs that don't call it fair, ego trip every game and hand out misconducts like candy won't last long either.

What I have always liked about the league is when they see stuff getting out of control, as opposed to ruining it for everyone else, and calling a bunch of penalties they will usually just send the hot heads home without assesing a penalty. According to Hockey Canada, any ejection is supposed to be a minimum of 10, but the NCHL lets the refs have discretion on this.

I usually find the majority of the teams that complain about the league, are in the wrong league, and are the guys that thinks beer league hockey REALLY MATTERS, want to have fighting allowed, and beak at guys that wear cages. I think guys forget its just about having a good time and smacking the disk around once a week.

I've been on teams with some real characters.

My only complaint about the NCHL (and this isn't the NCHL's fault really) is that the skill level of the divisions seem to change more drastically from season to season than other leagues. For example in the HNA our team got put into basically the same division as last year, and almost every team in the division from last year has returned. So we know exactly what to expect, and know we'll be okay right from the get go.

Where as in the NCHL, my other team looked at a bunch of teams in D and E (we always used to be D) and we recognized maybe two teams, so we went with D, and the first two teams we've played are comparable to teams I used to play against div B a couple years ago. Having said that, they will move us down after a few games if we keep losing, but it kind of sucks that we have to lose 5 games to start the season before the move.

Better than the 10 it took in the HNA last year with us.

It's interesting, now that I have reffed a lot of the different divisions, I can see there needs to be a lot of shifting around of teams. The way it stands now, there are a lot of teams in E and D that will be lucky to win 2 games and there are teams in E that I think would do very well in D. With that said, I have noticed every team has a mixture of not so good player (E II caliber) and really good guys (C - B Caliber) which surprised me.

By the way, I reffed a few of you in last few days... didn't want to say anything before in case I made a bad call.

if you reffed any of my games (2 this weekend Friday and Saturday) you should have let me know (Cougar Hunters 2) if you'd made a bad call I'd have told my team to give you a bit of a break it's your first year lol

My team is in D south, and I suspect we're destined for E. We have pretty much the mix you describe: 3 or 4 B/C players, another 5 or 6 solid D players and about 7 players whose skating is weak enough to be considered E level, I think.

I don't have any pride invested in being in the D division--I'd rather be competitive most nights so that the games are more fun. We lost badly the first two (no way we should be in the same division as those teams) and then had a really fun game last night where we lost in a shootout. But my feeling is we won't win too many games in the D division.

I reffed your Saturday game. You guys were good to reff. It's was fun to watch too since I just came from an EII game where the score was 13 - 1.

I was happy we beat the Demons the gave us all sorts of trouble in the summer season, still wish I hadn't let in that goal I played it pretty badly but yeah it was a good game.

We've been slaughtered three times out of four.

Hopefully we'll wind up in E.

Yup you would.

To be honest, I think you guys would have beat the team that slaughtered them last night.

Lol... I was the one that showed up late (aka. the good one).

Where you one of the guys that passed it to the other team in your end or the one that could skate?

In between, I guess? We have some very weak skaters on our team, including two or three I'd classify as beginners. I'm not one of them. On the other hand, at least two guys on the team are better skaters than me.

If it helps, you tried to give me a penalty for tripping a guy who was 100 feet away from me. Eventually the real culprit came over and said "that was me."

What we didn't tell you is that it actually was me. I have telekinetic tripping abilities.
