Why would Miami fall out ? they were 9 and played 11 and got beat.... getting beat by a top ranked team on the the road shouldnt knock you out of the the top 25...... however if your beat by an unranked team at home thats a different story
Ughhh stupid polls and USC LOVE.... USC loses to an unranked washington and now are ranked ahead of Oklahoma who lost to a ranked BYU team
I guess if Sam come back and we beat Miami we should get a ahead of them...

USC has also beat a top ten team on the road and have repeatedly shown that they will win big games at the end of the year.
They have earned the benefit of the doubt from the voters by consistently finishing in the top 5 of the polls.

Yeah I feel ya.... We need a playoff.... I mean think of why Ou didnt finish higher last year.. They were number 2 and played number 1. Number 1 is supposed to beat number 2. Ou lost but they still get busted down the polls. It wasnt a blow out or a bad game. I am sorry I just always wondered about it. I mean even if its another team that is ranked 8 and get beat by and school ranked number 5 . Then the 8th ranked team moves to 14 or so...
Of course USC is gonna win most of their non national championship bowl games. They are playing weak teams from the Small 10 conference. The last 3 years its been Penn st, Illinois, and Michigan...

I am sure they would have loved to kick the crap out of OU last season.
Both Michigan and Penn St. were very good teams the year that USC beat them and they won those games handily.

just like oregon state huh?
The same as Miami this year... If you never play defenses all year then you cant really gauge what you would do against a team that can occasionally stop a play...
For the record....Of course I am a HOMEr and USC destroyed OU last time they played so my argument has no merit ...
BTW just cause I am curious.. How the hell did you become a cards fan up in L.A.? J.C. went i played college baseball we had a lot of guys from Missouri and all they could talk about were the cards.

USC certainly has shown that they will no show at least one game a year but also shown that they can score on teams that can occasionally stop a play as well.
There OOC schedule over the past 5 years has been better than any of the other top schools so they do face decent talent during the season.

I liked McGwire and LaRussa from when they were in Oakland when I was a kid and then when they moved to St. Louis was when I actually really got interested in baseball so it seemed like an easy choice to go with the Cardinals.

what a bunch of BS Michigan should be at #19. Typical USC nonsense. Moving up 6 spots for beating a hapless worst in the PAC-10 WSH state.
Why is Miss even in the top 25.

+1
Of course I agreed with Moon earlier but then I thought why would it matter about USC getting voters confidence in years past. This is a poll for this year and shouldnt matter what happened in years past. USC should not be ranked 7th after losing to an unranked team.

Even though we won't see any official computer rankings yet (and for good reason), it's interesting to look at Sagarin's rankings, one of which is used by the BCS. Here's how the top 25 look in his BCS ranking:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt09.htm
1. Iowa
2. Boise State
3. Alabama
4. LSU
5. Virginia Tech
6. Oregon
7. Florida
8. TCU
9. USC
10. Miami-Florida
11. Georgia
12. Texas
13. Cincinnati
14. California
15. Georgia-Tech
16. Arizona
17. South Florida
18. Auburn
19. Missouri
20. Michigan
21. Houston
22. BYU
23. Ohio State
24. Florida State
25. North Carolina
Notable omissions: Oklahoma (27), Oklahoma State (26), Penn State (30), Kansas (33), Mississippi (58), Nebraska (36)

You're looking at the average between the two systems (elo-chess and predictor). Only the Elo-Chess formula (red column) is used in the BCS rankings. (Predictor uses margin-of-victory, which makes it more historically accurate but also excludes it from being BCS eligible).

USC's running back Stafon Johnson is out for the rest of the year after a weight lifting accident. Apparently, Johnson was doing bench press and the bar slipped out of one of his hands and landed on his neck/throat crushing his larynx.
He's been upgraded from critical to stable and is expected to make a full recovery.

Ugh. I could imagine of all the places for a barbell to land... and I'm sure he wasn't doing 45s on each side either.

ESPN reported last night that he was benching 275 lbs. Not much for him, I would assume.
He was being spotted by one of the assistant strength coaches, likely not paying strict attention due to the low weight.

There's not a whole lot a spotter can do in that situation.
If Johnson loses complete control of the bar no spotter is going to be able to hold up 275 lbs in that position.

No kidding. Catching 200+ pounds from a standing position without expecting it is impossible. Luckily for Johnson, he's built like a truck and the bar was likely pulled off immediately.

Well, the most important ranking used by Saragrin (the one used in the BCS) has Bama 3rd and Va Tech 4th... Either way, the computer rankings will always be a little off this early in the season.
Va Tech is ahead of Bama in some rankings because they've beaten two good football teams in Nebraska and Miami. Their weakest game is Marshall which is definitely a step up from Alabama's games against North Texas and Florida International.

Which would be understandable if they hadn't played each other, but they have.
