The real amazing thing is it's the first murder in Stabmonton in 11 weeks.

The homicide rate in Edmonton is actually getting better from what I heard. They were #1 in the country, but are now tied for 4th. Calgary, though, is still much lower than Edmonton in that stat.

I believe Calgary had 32 homicides last year, compared to Edmonton's 22.

Homicide rates for 2008 per 100 000 people...

Homicide rates were highest in the western CMAs of Abbotsford–Mission (4.7), Winnipeg (4.1), Regina (3.8), Edmonton (3.4), Kelowna (3.4), Calgary (2.9) and Vancouver (2.4).

We had 33, but keep in mind 4 of them were in that house where the guy went crazy and killed his family.

EDIT: Also, there were actually 35 homicides in Edmonton in 2008, and 42 in the whole metro area.

Edmonton had 35 homicides according to this article.

Calgary also has a larger population.

A man died last year in Calgary when a hobo punched him over not giving him 50 cents.

Hmmm, I only took a quick look at the EPS website and could only count 22 murders last year. I must have been looking in the wrong place. But yeah I think things have been coming down a bit up here. Although, that probably just means that we're due for a big upheaval in gang activity or something that will eliminate a few more people from this town.

Ummm..... The suspect in this incident is described as an East Indian male, about 5-ft.-10, with a beard.
He was wearing an orange Lions jersey with the number 2 on the back, and a black and orange toque

I told a friend from edmonton about those stats, and he said it does not really matter, because it is just the gangs killing each other off... and that is itself a solution to the problem. LOL

Well when it's strictly gang killings, I don't get too bent out of shape. But there have been some heinous murders involving innocent people. Last year an old man was killed in his condo complex for no good reason at all. Someone was in the stair well, and I think stabbed him to death. Scary stuff.
