Hmmm... I have an overhead stove style microwave. Seems to have broken, it turns on, clock works, you can program in anything, the timer winds down, but at the end the food is still cold. The fan is also pretty loud.

Now I'm not sure whether it's worth it to call someone to look at it. I'd anticipate the microwave is 10 - 20 years old. I'd guess 10, but it could be older. It's a Frigidaire. These stove-top ones seem to be quite a bit more expensive than the standard countertop ones .

Any suggestions? I don't want a new stove-top ones since in the next 2 - 4 years the kitchen will get re-done and who knows what will happen with the cabinet and stove areas.

Just buy a cheap counter top?

Are the stove-top ones difficult to install?

Thanks

You need to replace the plutonium fuel rods in the back.

Or buy a new microwave

I'm sure that in your area plutonium is available in every corner drugstore, but in mine it's a little hard to come by

You could buy an anti-matter conversion kit at Sears if you can't find any plutonium rods near you.

Or buy a new microwave.

I wonder if I randomly put the term weapons grade plutonium into a post where I talk about a storage room in my basement if some computer in a basement somewhere puts out an alert to a shadowy cabal of government assassins.

No, he needs to re-energize the dilithium crystals. To do that, he needs to get the radioactive photons from a nuclear reactor and thus the plutonium fuel rods.

I don't know, there's something wrong with my tidalwave oven. Everytime I open the door I get drenched.

Should I try to get it fixed, or merely buy a new one?

Please reference this schedule and only open the door on the ebb as per manufacturers instructions.

No, if you wait 4 million years, it will work again after being discovered by an Autobot probe which will save you a few bucks.

It's ok, I was happy to see your post as I'm having the exact same problem with my microwave.

I was also happy to see the thread derailed with Star Trek and Back to the Future references.

I had a girlfriend in University whose mother was afraid of the microwave. When they turned it on in the kitchen, she would sing "Microwave..." and everyone would be obliged to leave the room while the microwave was on (and presumably emitting dangerous radiation).

The funny thing is, they went to the room on the other side of the wall behind the microwave. She didn't see the irony in expecting less than an inch of gypsum and paper to protect her from something that the lead shielded front of the oven did not.

My other microwave-related tidbit is to suggest that you break that sucker open. There are a couple of ring-shaped rare-earth magnets in there that are super strong and subsequently excellent for tying on the end of a string to pick up nails from the ground or fishing some drill bit out from behind your work bench or something like that...
