But "A right is a right is a right"

There was a guy wearing an NRA t-shirt in the Mac's in front of me this evening; the shirt said something like "It's not an opinion - it's a RIGHT!", and then had a picture of some kind of handgun under the slogan.

I was going to tell him he looks like an idiot walking around in Canada wearing a shirt that doesn't apply here, but then I remembered he was probably carrying and would throw down as soon as look at me, and instead I just paid for my slushie, left, went out to the car, got the tire iron out of the trunk, and waylaid him as he tried to step up into his giant 4X4 with the Confederate flag in the window.

Now I'm going to get a custom t-shirt of my own:
"Guns don't kill people:
Tire irons wielded by psychopaths kill people."

Personally, I am partial to the position taken in this quote from Thomas Jefferson, as displayed in the Jefferson memorial in Washington.

Neither of your above examples are entrenched into the US constitution. The Bill of Rights specifically makes allowances for citizens to carry guns. So in that sense, the right remains timeless.

There was a MacLean's article on Cirque a couple of weeks ago. Read it. You might feel differently.

A hand held device is not a national icon, silly
Funny, I don't recall stating that the US is the only nation on earth with morons. I'd much rather watch a liberal-biased news network like CBC that actually reports the news than crap like republican-leaning CNN and their 12 hours of twitter and email readings from Bob in Alabama each day.

I don't ever recall stating that everyone in Seattle questions whether we have the internet in Canada. You wouldn't find one Canadian doubting whether the US has the internet, Blackberries or telephones. Nor would they doubt that people in Argentina have the internet.

I can clearly see you like to generalize my post, because I never stated the US didn't have ethnic diversity. I simply stated they are clueless as to the ethnic makeup of their northern neighbours. They have no idea of the cultural mosaic we live in here in Canada.

And MacLeans is a Canadian magazine, how is a Canadian magazine article on Canadian companies going to inform people in the US? It don't exactly get the distribution TIME does.

And lastly, a handheld device can be a national icon, just like Wayne, the maple leaf, the mounties (for better or worse lately) and beer. How is that different from applie pie and badly made cars no one wants to buy in the US?

You do realize those ^^^ were pointing to your own post, right? So you must be talking about yourself not knowing how to quote. My quote was one solid, continuous quote, no error on my part.

There is no right in the US Constitution to bear guns, you can bear arms but not guns. Furthermore, the interpretation of liberal constructionist like Scalia is ridiculous, either the right is entrenched and timeless as of the time it was written in the late 18th century, or it is a right that is in place to allow the citizenry to defend itself against the tyranny of the state, in which case you should be allowed to accumulate all of the weapons that the state has. But to have judges sitting and deciding what is an arm and what is not must drive Conservatives crazy.

Get of Burress' back. I'm sure he was just taking target practice in the club, it's his god given right as a US citizen. There is nothing wrong with bringing weapons to crowded night clubs. What could possibly go wrong in public when people do that?

Many things get stolen. Illegal gun smuggling rings (organized crime) are a bit of a different animal than farmer Joe going down town to buy a target shooting/hunting rifle.

Were you wearing your "FREEMAN OF THE LAND" t-shirt? Did you pay for your slurpee with an old Certs wrapper and an expired CTrain ticket?

The gun was registered to Burris but he moved to New York and the Dummy didn't know New York has a VERY strict concealed weapons law, he could have got 10 years.

I wonder when other citys will follow this strict stance?

Gun related murders last year by city:

Detroit (metro)
Population 993,000
Gun related murders = 307
3.1 per 100k

Philadelphia (metro)
Population 1,450,000
Gun related murders = 336
2.3 per 100k

Los Angeles (county)
Population 3,610,000
Gun related murders = 677 (LA has more murders than Aid victims and traffic deaths combined)
1.9 per 100k

New York (metro)
Population 7,940,000
Gun related murders = 294
0.04 per 100k

It's obvious to me the threat in NY is working!

Interesting. Do you have the website for those stats? Does it have D.C. or more California cities available?

He should also post the stats from Washington DC since they banned handguns, and then unbanned them. If they have.
