Saw it last night and was really surprised a 10:00 show on a Sunday night was full.
Great movie! Best movie of the summer for me. Great storytelling, great camera work, and I really enjoyed the switching between documentary and "normal" style.
I loved the sometimes subtle, sometimes not commentary on human nature, segregation, racism, and so on.
The action was great but on the gory side much of the time (like when the Nigerian boss guy unfortunately passed away)...
Wikus was a great character. They had you feel like he was a complete and utter ######canoe at the beginning and by the end you really sympathized with him.
Awesome film, highly recommended.

I never really found Wikus to be a bad guy and I don't think that was Bloomkamp's intent either. I think he was symbolic of the excesses of bureaucracy and their removal from personal interaction with the people (in this case, the aliens) that they are supposedly appointed to serve. He really was in over his head, having been nothing more than a company-sponsored pencil-pusher designed to carry out the orders from his superiors as efficiently and with as little incident as possible. His character was awkward, quite bumbling and perhaps even a little naive/incompetent, but not maliicous for the most part.

The movie was 18A.

Thought it was pretty good. Again I wish there was at least a little back story..
SPOILERS BELOW
An original concept, but I don't understand why the aliens don't just pick up their vastly superior weapons and start a revolution. 2.5 million? They should have been ruling that slum, not getting ruled. No way you can tell me they are a neutral people with those kind of weapons. I know it said they were mostly drones and workers, but those weapons seemed pretty simple. Plus they built a bad ass suit for those slum lords.. build 100 of those or a thousand and you are set.

I think it was moreso that they were drones and workers not in the sense that they didn't know how to operate weapons, but that they had no order and structure. They could not see, as a group the benefit in starting any sort of revolution. It's like a colony of bees: remove the queen, and they become listless and uninterested, to the point of nearly starving.

Quite simply one of the best Sci-fi's I've ever seen. Easily the best movie of the summer for me. Better than Star-Trek...Harry Potter, you name it. Bummer for me was I had to sit front row and I think I missed some of what went on. I'm already making plans to go again I was so impressed. Definitely going early to get better seats!

Awesome movie, and well worth it not knowing a damn thing about any of it. Wikus was a surprise protagonist (a welcome one), and it was a very original storyline.
Best movie of the summer, and best action flick of the year.

Why didn't they shoot the ship out of the air a second time?

Because MNU's SAM clearly can only fire one missile per movie

If you watch closely, in the last explosion that baldy was involved in his walkie talkie was blown out of his hand and into a million pieces.
He had no way to contact home base.. not sure if they could see the ship from where they were or not.. but that is why he couldn't order a second hit.

My earlier question wasn't answered. How did Wickes and Christopher get to MNU headquarters?

I think the bigger question is; are tiny plot-holes like this one enough to distract from one's appreciation of the movie?
In short, who cares?

Definitley left a spot for a sequel, but like its already been mentioned...I hope they leave it be.

Sadly, I not only see a sequel but I wouldn't be surprised to see a televesion series at some point as well.
It's all about the money.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing a sequel if it is different enough from the original. Like, not a direct continuation but a different storyline altogether.

I saw this last night and thought it was awesome. Despite a lot of people hoping for no sequel, I for one, think District 10 has the potential to be another awesome movie. I can't wait for when the mothership returns three years from now!
