I mountain bike a bunch, yet I've only ever dreamed of one spot on one trail my whole life.
Porcupine Rim trail in Moab, Utah. I rode it solo the last day we were there. It rained the night before so my tracks were the only ones. Nothing else made a sound but me that morning. The entire area is breathtaking.
Same. I love Porcupine Rim. I miss Moab. thanks for that.
I loved running through Rome in the early morning . . . . . . here's a description I wrote when I got back . . . . .
Probably my favourite moments of our Italian holiday were getting up around 5:45 to 6:15 in the morning in Rome and hitting the streets for a run, past an empty St. Peter's Square, up Janiculum Hill to see the sun rising over the Colosseum and Palantine, then down into the narrow cobblestone streets of Trastevere before plunging down to the Tiber at Ponte Sisto and running along the river for miles off the map, then returning and climbing out of the river at Castel Sant Angelo and heading back to the hotel.
It's a kind of Rome even the natives probably rarely see. . . . . . an empty Rome with little or no traffic, an occasional couple entwined on Janiculum Hill, a band of gypsies snoring underneath one of the bridges near Castel Sant Angelo as a matron rythemically and habitually swept the dust around them . . . . . an ancient drinking fountain to sip in along the way . . . . .
I like running in foreign cities before anyone is awake. Central Park in New York, Milan, Florence, London, the beaches in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Monterrey to Pacific Grove and back, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, Maui . . . . probably other places I can't remember.
CP - thanks for posting this. I'm in the process of planning a longer trip and this is a great idea
I figured that pictures wouldn't do a decent job of showing the entire yard, so I uploaded a short video of my yard to youtube. Sorry for the blurryness, camera is a POS.

If I'm going somewhere anyway, it's easy to google and see if there is a race I can build a trip into . . . . like a half marathon in Amsterdam last year on the way back from Africa that I lucked into.
Sometimes it works and other times you're wandering around on a run on your own and that might even be better frankly.

This has to be one of my most favourite places I've ever been. Too bad it's a fly in/hike in or else I would have pushed for permanant residence there.
Amiskwi Lodge, north of Golden/Field

Now that I live in Canada, we hardly ever get a chance to go anymore, which is a real shame. I was back visiting my family last month so I got a chance to spend some time up and take some pics. It was amazing.
I will give you a billion dollars for that house

The family once owned a cabin on Mahood Lake in Wells Gray provincial park in BC. I really miss that place. It was as remote as one could get and the fishing was awesome.
Is that a Glasstron Boat? The front end looks similar to the boat we own
Hiking around Joshua Tree National Park is one of the most tranquil settings I have ever experienced. I absolutely love it.
Joshua Tree is awsome, I love going rock climbing there, one of the best areas to go climbing in the world. The only downside is no running water and outhouse toilets.
New York and Switzerland are probably my 2 favorite places, though little spots like BlackEleven's pic in Norway, or in Yukon or Montana that are awsome too.

Haha. If it were actually for sale, I'd accept that offer in a heartbeat (if were entirely up to me, a lot of different members of my family have a stake in it). It's been owned by my family for 4 generations though, I don't think anyone would be willing to part with it.
Location: Chiefs Kingdom, Yankees Universe, C of Red.

This was my favorite spot when I lived in Australia. The Crags near Port Fairy in Victoria. I would drive by this spot periodically for work. If I had time I would stop and spend an hour just sitting up on the rocks watching the waves crash. It was usually in the middle of the afternoon and I usually had the place to myself. I found this on YouTube since I don't have any digital photos of this spot.
Just curious, what that would cost if it were, I've heard Norway is ridiculously expense for pretty much everything.
Yeah, its definitely expensive if you're used to Canadian prices. Houses and land, though, are actually not that much more expensive here. Not sure why, maybe less supply and demand?
But here's some example prices last time I was back (converted to approx. CAD$) that I remember:
Pint of Beer (at a pub) - $16
large chocolate bar - $10
gasoline - $2.50/L (mind you, much higher octane than here)
~15-20 minute cab ride - $90
It's possible to find deals on necessary items (food, clothes, etc) from time to time, but in general things cost about 2-3x what they do here.
