Following CP daily
Ok, so I've got a question for you all. There may be a simple answer, but I'm not sure. I've noticed CLEARLY that you guys hate repeat posts to say the least. Everyone posting anything that has ever been even thought of and mentioned before will get locked. I get that, it's your site, enjoy your process. But what is bugging me with that is following threads daily and then forgetting where I've left off. Lets say with the Big Brother thread. I come and read it after the shows to see what people have said, then when the next show is on, obviously there's a lot more posts. I fumble though the pages where I think I left off to pick back up again. A better example would be that stupid picture thread. It's funny and fun, and gets updated all the time, but I never went back to see the rest because there's no way I'd remember where I stopped looking. I guess the best way to fix that is to subscribe, but still, that doesn't hold my place.
I may be spoiled from another site. In that one, no matter where you post, it will automatically subscribe you. The next time you come back it will bring you back to your most current post. I think the issue with me is with so many threads with so many pages, it's frustrating to follow some.
OR there is a simple fix and I'm just not seeing it. And, please, don't tell me to remember the dates on the threads or something like that. I want my computer to open the thread and take me to my last viewed post, is that too much to ask?

You have to spend more time on CP, so you never miss a post.

Up at the top left corner, it says "view first unread" by an arrow.... You can click that. At the same time, on the main page of the subforum, there are arrows that are the same as that arrow... they do the same thing.

Click the little red box beside the thread (and above the username of the thread-starter), and it will take you to the first unread post in the thread.
EDIT: haha, beaten twice already!

DOK has been a member for a while, so this makes me wonder what little gems I don't know about. I remember when I first found the "go to first unread post" link and it was like a dream come true.

Set your settings so that it displays the maximum number of posts per page and not the default. For me, many threads are a continuous page and I don't have to click between pages to remember where I was.
Before you leave a thread, make a post yourself and the next day, use the Find In Page option in Firefox or Opera to find the last post you yourself made.

I actually found a greasemonkey script that did the same thing, and when I created a thread about it someone asked if that was doing the same thing as the down arrow

Then also put it on a DVD, and send it around the league?

We don't have any problems with recruiting. We've got opponent fan members up the wazoo to complement the hoardes of Flames fans.
Oilfans.com IIRC has sent out a DVD.

I remember when someone posted that about a year ago. There were members that had been here for 2 years that didn't know about it.
I laughed at them.

Holy crap. I didn't know that and I've been following CP for a good 5-6 years. I just keep refreshing and go back till I remember which post it was. I read every post in the 'stupid picture thread' because it's just that good!

Maybe this tip needs to be a sticky or something
I'm sure with many new members joining all the time, it's something people only eventually figure out

Do people know that they can also change the number of posts per page? If you have a fast connection, set it to 50.

Put me in the "Wow. I didn't know that" crowd. I always just clicked the similar, "last post" button and scrolled back. This will help on the GDT.
