On a somewhat related note, I have always though that root beer tastes like toothpaste, I've tried it so many times and never liked it, anyone else like this?

This is a good question, not just restricted to the major chains: where is the best poutine in Calgary. It is relatively hard to find in Calgary (besides A&W, Burger King, and New York Fries edit: okay apparently KFC and Harvey's have it also)... any good indie places for poutine? I need to overdose on it while I am in town at Christmas.

Apparently Dairy Queen makes a good poutine. I've had a few French-Canadian friends say that and go often for it.

Best burger - A&W teenburger (the root beer kicks azz)
Best fries - I don't eat fries
Best softdrink - McDonalds Coke is the best fountain pop ever.

Best Burgers: Wendy's, A&W
Best Fries: Arby's Curly
Worst Burger: Harvey's
Worst Fries: McDonalds (the 90% of the time that they have 10 pounds of salt in your little container of fries)
I pretty much NEVER go to Harvey's, rarely go to Burger King.
When I want a fast food burger, I usually go to Wendy's, followed by DQ or A&W, and occasionally McDonalds.

Alberta King of Subs in the NE (52nd, one block S of McKnight).
The guy gets his Montreal Smoked Meat shipped in from Schwartz's in Montreal, and has stellar poutine. One of those places that look like a hole in the wall of a strip mall, but has great food.

Best Burgers: Harvey's...and in close second the Costco Angus Burger.
Best Fries: Costco...I kid you not, I love Costco's fries...almost as much as I love their poutine. Arby's curly fries get honourable mention.
Best Value: Have to go with the Arby's 4 for 6.
Best Poutine: Costco
Worst Burgers: Mcdonalds...seriously...have you eaten a double cheeseburger? If not, try dissecting it and eating each piece individually...it's borderline vomit inducing.
Worst Fries: Wendy's...it's frankly
Worst Value: KFC poutine...see below
Worst Poutine: KFC...pricey, small; only redeeming factor is that gravy is...well...kfc-licious.

Best Burger: Wendy's Big Bacon Classic. Runner up: A&W Teen Burger.
Worst Burger: Rotten Ronnie's and Harvey's
Taco Time and Opa's are good fast food places too, but Opa's has gone downhill badly in recent years.
If I want something remotely healthy ... Subway.

Alberta King of Subs is fantastic, no where else even compares when it comes to poutine and Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwiches. Although costco makes a decent Poutine.
