My feelings are hurt??? You are the one who said you were so "extra insulted" by my original post.......like cry me a river.
I don't care if you are a cop, or your daddy or whoever, but imo the profession and the laws that govern it continue to get worse and worse. It's sad really........
........and if you are the "crap generalization" police on this board, you must be a busy boy....

That's probably true. But there's a vast spectrum between "hating all cops" and thinking "cops shouldn't put a taser in someone's ass."
I'll put this disclaimer in for oilers_fan, who seems to think that anyone who is opposed to police brutality must hate cops.
I've had only good experiences with police officers. EVERY police officer I have met or interacted with has been professional, courteous, effective, efficient, by the book and nice.
I might feel differently if one of them had put a taser against my scrotum. The audio tape transcript of this incident is pretty damning. It doesn't really matter what this guy was doing--there's a higher moral high ground that police must occupy, and they generally do. In fact, this sort of case is the exception, not the norm, and maybe we can do away with all of this "CP hates cops" stupidity if we just agree to that.
But this kind of action is a brutal abuse of authority, and the cop will likely lose his job--as he should. Unfortunately, this type of incident does sometimes occur, because every profession has its ######bags, including law enforcement.

Anyone who sees a story like this and thinks all cops are corrupt is ignorant in the first place.
Also, if cops happen to be abusing their power, it should be publicized. As a society we trust them to operate with our best interests in mind. We need to make sure that happens.

Busy ignoring their fist oath which is an oath under "common law" as a Peace Officer. Their second oath is a Statutory Oath as a Police (Policy) Officer that generates income for the Law Society - Speeding tickets, fines...

I don't hate cops, but I have met a few that were real pricks. And out the three people I know from highschool who became cops, all three were jerks. One was actually convicted of breaking and entering and was stealing stereos...lol.
Obviously there are a lot of police who enter into the field because they legitimately want to help people and serve the community. But for every one of those guys, there is probably another who enters the field because they get their jollies from being able to wield power over others. Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast. Any time there is forum where people can have power, there will be those who want to abuse it.

I think associating ex-millitary men as a cause of police brutality is pretty silly too, actually.
I think it has a lot more to do with the training, recruitment, work environment and poisoned public opinion, which police departments all over the north america are themselves partially responsible for.
It also doesn't help that there is painfully little oversight and accountability by the public. I would be more inclined to run wild if there was no accountability for my actions, too.

I absolutely agree. I'd assumed it was clear that my comment was not a defense of this cop's actions, but merely a response to the people who seem just hate they very concept of a Police Officer.

As opposed to the always respectful, law-abiding and courteous redneck community... look, I can stereotype too!
I prefer my anti-authoritarianism with a dash of irony. If you're going to keep serving up prejudiced regurgitation of opinion-as-fact instead, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to step up my mockery, and I just don't know if I have the time to point out your errors as fast as you can post them.
So do me a favour: "Think twice. Post once."

I've never ever considered that assumption so I'm going to disagree
Substituting hate for strong distrust/dislike. Maybe it's a rational distrust/dislike based on life experiences?

The bottom line is that this officer raped a man with a taser. That deserves to get talked about.

Exactly. If there's one thing that bothers me about CP, it's this weird pro cop/anti cop debate that seems to come up when ever a cop related story is posted. When these threads come up I see lots of posters that are against/skeptical of the actions of the cop in that particular story. Which is usually followed up by accusations of posters being anti-cop.
I have nothing but respect for police officers and the job they do, and have had really good experiences with officers in Calgary. Yet for some reason, on Calgarypuck, I constantly find myself generalized as "the anti police crowd", simply because I reply to police threads where an officer/officers have seemingly acted out of line.
A couple of posters have it exactly right. Certain posters say "Well you never hear the stories where cops acted appropriatly". Well....no, you don't. That's the same with all people/proffessions.......and like one poster said, if posters read stories on Calgarypuck and come to the conclusion that all cops are ######bags, then they're ignorant to begin with.
