Thats because the plane is nearly full, 20 or so open seats and then the price won't change much because then employees take them anyways.

So I'm looking at a flights near the end of October returning a month later to Rio de Janeiro and finding some amazing deals (~$680 USD return). How long can I expect these to last? There are some things I was hoping to figure out before I go ahead and book.

Brazil has been on sale for a while, not really sure why (maybe it's because of the plane crash). $680 USD is actually a bit more than I've been seeing, I know there were some deals closer to $600. Brazil and Japan are definitely the best deals going right now. It's anyone's guess as to how long it lasts.

Ouch -- that sucks.

This won't help you now, but whenever there's a seat sale I recommend booking first, and then confirming afterwards (Westjet gives you a full 24 hours to cancel -- they will refund the whole amount back to your credit card so no credit files, and you don't even need to talk to anyone as you can do it online).

I want to go to England next summer for 3 or so weeks. When is the best time for me to book? Close to the date of travel or should I try and book nowish?

Has anyone ever seen this actually happen? I check last minute flights every now and then and they're always wickedly expensive...

From what I've seen, flights that far away won't be on sale. I booked my cheap October flight last month (mid June), so 4 months in advance.

I'd keep a casual eye on it for now, checking every now and then. Once you get into the new year, and into Feb, start checking every single day.

Depending on the airline you can book 330-350 days in advance.

I'd start watching out for seat sales and book when the right deal comes along.

The dangers of waiting till near the date of travel is that there might not be any seat sales when your looking to book your flights.

The time of year that you travel can have a bearing of the price of airline ticket. Going during off season can save you a bundle of money.

From my experience, you might find something like this with charter airlines, but almost never with most of the standard airlines. This year I found a $350 flight to Germany (all in) on Air Transat, but it was literally leaving the next morning.

yeah, I can leave two days later and come back two days later and it only cost me 60 bucks total.

plus AC wants me to leave Newark at 8AM coming home and I dont get there till 10pm so its a waste of two days.

It's right on the edge of being a great deal...

Calgary to Hong Kong - $639 USD

Late August / Early September (example date, Aug 29 to Sep 9)

Air Canada

Charter to London, fly from London via Easyjet, the earlier you book the cheaper (i've done it twice, 30 GBP return)
